Fanshawe College Accessibility Plan, September 2009

Non-Academic Student Support Services:

Fanshawe completed the research study of the benefits of services for Fanshawe students with identified mental health issues in assisting them to attain employment. Disability Services partnered with LEADS Employment Services, the University of Western Ontario, Regional Mental Health Services and Canadian Mental Health Association on this innovative research study.

This pilot project was initially funded by the Employment Initiatives Fund from January 2008 to March 2009. However, successful employment outcomes led to continuation of the project with local funding resources. Fanshawe provides the 'supported education' component of the project. LEADS works directly with our students to provide job placement and job development strategies. This wraparound service helps Fanshawe students with identified mental health issues to attain successful employment.

It is hoped that successful outcomes will lead to longer term funding for this very important project, which has been presented at a conference in Atlantic Canada.
