ARCH-3001 - Architectural Elements for Interiors 1 This is a lecture oriented course designed to expose the student to various methods of building construction, building components, basic structural systems, LEED application and reference to the Ontario Building Code. This program will be instrumental in the understanding of the design process necessary for development and renovation of interior spaces. Information collected in this course will be applied in Technical Drafting III, and Technical Drafting IV. Residential construction will be emphasized. to top of page ARCH-3014 - Architectural Elements 2 Architectural Elements For Interiors I is a prerequisite for this course. This is a lecture oriented course designed to expose the students to various methods of building construction, building components, basic structural systems with reference to the Ontario Building Code and commercial construction emphasized. Information collected in this course will be applied to Technical Drafting For Interiors V, Technical Drafting, Interiors VI and 3rd year design studio. to top of page ARTS-1023 - Fundamental Drawing This one semester core course is designed to develop the students' skills of observation and drawing through a series of multi-media exercises and projects. These will foster an aesthetic appreciation in the student by helping them understand composition, balance, scale, proportion line, texture and color. Credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the second level of the Interior Design program. to top of page ARTS-1026 - Fundamental Drawing 2 This one semester core course is designed to develop the students' skills of observation and drawing through a series of exercises and projects. One-point and two-point perspective drawing of room elements will be introduced and serve as one of the vehicles by which the student will express acquired skills. This course is considered to be a core subject and credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the second year of the Interior Design program. to top of page ARTS-1066 - Presentation & Illustration 1 This course builds on Drawing 2 and emphasizes more advanced illustration techniques. Students will prepare detailed perspective renderings to help sell their design proposals. Material renditions and shade and shadow techniques will be taught. to top of page ARTS-3030 - Presentation & Illustration This course is a continuation of Presentation and Illustration. Students will be exposed to various techniques of rendering to help them acquire their own personal style of illustrating for presentation drawings. Verbal presentation will also be reviewed. Students will be allowed to experiment with more advanced visual presentation packages. to top of page ARTS-5017 - Portfolio Presentation This is a 15 hour course that has been designed to assist the student with the development and presentation of their professional portfolio. Students will be required to prepare an exhibition of their work to be displayed at the end Gala in late August for public viewing. to top of page BUSI-5003 - Business Presentation This course is designed to increase the students' awareness of the skills necessary for marketing and selling their ideas and product in the interior design field. It involves the students in presenting their work to outside clientele and building their personal marketing identity-business card/stationery. to top of page CADD-1056 - Interior Design AutoCAD 1 This course develops Interior Design AutoCAD skills and is a pre requisite for Interior Design AutoCAD 2. Students will learn basic settings for drawing creation and drawing management such as layout/model space, plotting settings, viewports. Students will use basic AutoCAD techniques to produce preliminary construction drawings for hypothetical interior design projects. The following applies for course offerings consistent with the Standard Academic Calendar. to top of page CADD-3021 - Interior Design AutoCAD 2 This core course offers the fundamentals of AutoCAD with a focus on Interior Design applications. Students will demonstrate their ability to prepare 3D drawings that include file management, drawing setup-layers, linetypes, dimension styles text and plotting. to top of page CADD-3022 - Interior Design AutoCAD 3 This course introduces 3D modeling in AutoCAD. Students will create and render various objects using all aspects of the program and finally produce a room holding these objects. Rendering techniques in AutoCAD will be incorporated into the project requirements. to top of page CADD-5012 - Interior Design AutoCAD 4 This course introduces Architectural Desktop software, reinforces interior design AutoCAD skills developed in Interior Design AutoCAD 3 and is a pre requisite to Interior Design AutoCAD 5. Students will create a complete set of drawings including elevations and perspectives. Students will produce a video walkthrough utilizing different rendering techniques with Architectural Desktop software. to top of page CADD-5013 - Interior Design AutoCAD 5 This course reinforces interior design AutoCAD and REVIT skills developed in previous Interior Design AutoCAD courses. Adobe photoshop will be used to develop a poster for the end of the semester interior design GalaStudents will create plan and elevations in full colour using REVIT to be applied to a model. Students will produce advanced REVIT drawings to top of page COMM-3023 - Comm. for Designers, Planners, Techs Professional communication is designed to improve students’ writing, reading, and speaking skills for work-related purposes. Emphasis is placed on process writing, composing, researching, documenting, evaluating, and editing program-related materials. Students also prepare a résumé/cover letter package and deliver an oral presentation based on research. to top of page DESG-1001 - Basic Design Studio This is a one semester project-oriented core course where the student is first introduced to interior space. Emphasis is placed on basic design elements and principles as they relate to interiors. Student projects for this semester will concentrate on residential space. This course is considered to be a core subject and credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the second year of the Interior Design program. to top of page DESG-1013 - Interior Design Studio 2 This is a one semester project-oriented core course where the student is introduced to commercial interior spaces. Emphasis is placed on basic design elements and principles as they relate to interiors. to top of page DESG-1027 - Design Fundamentals Design Fundamentals is a pre-requisite for this course. This is a one semester core course with emphasis placed on the elements and principles of design as they relate to design. Two and three dimensional elements will be explored. to top of page DESG-1028 - Perspective Development This core course is a hands on step by step course designed to expose the student to various methods of representing the 3rd dimension of design in a two dimensional drawing. This course will assist the student in understanding design development as well as giving them a vehicle to present their design ideas. Specific attention to accuracy, detail and quality of craftsmanship will be required. to top of page DESG-1064 - Design Fundamentals This course covers basic design theory. Students are introduced to a variety of design fundamentals through lectures and "hands-on" 2D and 3D assignments. Students will expand their visual perception by analyzing the fundamental principles and elements of design and their relationship to interior design. to top of page DESG-3035 - Interior Design Studio 3 This is a one semester project-oriented core course. Two projects will be researched, one commercial and one residential. A model will be developed from the residential project. This course is considered to be a core subject and credit in this course must be achieved before proceeding to the 4th level of the Interior Design program. to top of page DESG-3036 - Interior Design Studio 4 This is a 1 semester project-oriented core course. A variety of projects will be researched including business, commercial and residential interior spaces. This course is a core subject and credit must be achieved before proceeding to the 3rd Year of the Interior Design program. to top of page DESG-5005 - Interior Design Studio 5 This is a 1 semester project-oriented core course. A variety of projects will be researched including business, institutional, commercial and residential interior spaces. Computer aided drafting AutoCAD skills will be used to produce design solutions. Advanced Projects will be undertaken with emphasis placed on research, programming, and professional execution of typical Interior Design projects. Computer aided drafting AutoCad skills and REVIT will be used to produce design. Historical restoration will be included. to top of page DRAF-1003 - Technical Drafting for Interiors This is a core course which is designed to introduce the student to architectural drafting instruments and manual drafting skills as they relate to interior design construction drawings. Credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the second level of the Interior Design program. to top of page DRAF-1012 - Technical Drafting for Interiors This is a core course that builds on Technical Drafting for Interiors and is designed to further develop the student's drafting skills in the production of basic interior design construction drawings. Students will construct a three dimensional model from their construction drawings. This course is considered to be a core subject and credit in this course should be achieved to proceed to any portion of the second year of the Interior Design program. to top of page DRAF-3012 - Technical Drafting for Interiors 3 Technical Drafting For Interiors II is a pre-requisite for this course. This core course will emphasize more advanced skills of manual drafting required in the execution of working drawings with emphasis placed on plans, elevations, sections and details of objects and buildings. Some design work will be required. Model building will be completed. This course is considered to be a core subject and therefore credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the 4th level of the Interior Design program. to top of page DRAF-3014 - Technical Drafting for Interiors 4 Technical Drafting For Interiors III is a prerequisite for this course. This core course will emphasize more advanced skills of manual drafting required in the execution of working drawings with emphasis placed on the working reflected ceiling plans, drawing plans, elevations, sections and details of interior spaces. Credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the 3rd year of the Interior Design program. to top of page DRAF-5006 - Technical Drafting for Interiors 5 This is a one semester core course that is a continuation of Technical Drafting for Interiors at a more advanced level, using AutoCAD software. Emphasis will be placed on applied technology, detailing and structural information. Specific attention to detail and quality of line weights will be required. Specification writing and pricing will be included. to top of page HIST-1028 - History of Period Styles 1 This one semester course is designed to develop an understanding and interest in the furniture and architectural styles of the past. This course serves as a General Education credit within the program and discusses how history, politics, religion, climate, geography, social conditions and physical resources have shaped and influenced the architecture and interior furnishings of each country and time period studied. It fosters an aesthetic appreciation in the student by helping them understand beauty, form, taste and the role of the arts in society. It will allow the student to discuss, research, and replicate a design based in a past era or style. Areas of study include Egypt, the Renaissance, and the French periods. to top of page HIST-3015 - History of Period Styles 2 This one semester course is designed to develop an understanding and interest in the furniture and architectural styles of the past. This course serves as a General Education credit within the program and discusses how history, politics, religion, climate, geography, social conditions and physical resources have shaped and influenced the architecture and interior furnishings of each country and time period studied. It fosters an aesthetic appreciation in the student by helping them understand beauty, form, taste and the role of the arts in society. to top of page MATS-1004 - Materials of Design This is a one semester lecture based course. The selection criteria for interior design materials are introduced, and the properties, manufacture and selection of various interior finishes are covered. Wood, glass, ceramics, plastics and metals are discussed, along with types of flooring materials and their features. Processes for estimating flooring yardages are also included. to top of page MATS-3006 - Materials of Interior Design This one semester lecture based course builds on Materials of Interior Design. The construction, aesthetics and properties of fabrics and wall coverings are covered. Furniture construction, drapery and upholstery styles are explored, with their application to and installation into commercial and residential interiors. Specifying, measuring, estimating and costing is included. to top of page METH-1004 - Colour for Interiors This is a lecture and project oriented core course. The student will explore the history and psychology of colour and the various colour theory systems. Two dimensional projects painted with gauche paints will be completed to reinforce colour theory. Credit in this course must be achieved to proceed to the second level of the Interior Design program. to top of page METH-1012 - Colour for Interiors Students apply theory to practice by preparing colour schemes for interior spaces. Color theory critiques of interior design spaces are prepared and presented by students in groups. This is a CORE course and must be completed to continue into the 2nd Year of the Interior Design program. This course builds on METH-1004. to top of page METH-3012 - Business for Interiors This course is a lecture series designed to make students aware of business principles needed to practice in the interior design profession. Students will understand community expectations in terms of regulation, logic, decision making and awareness of the social and financial environment around them. to top of page METH-5004 - Business for Interiors This course is a lecture series designed to introduce students to project management, specification writing and the bid process for interior design projects. The student will be exposed to ARIDO’s code of ethics and the requirements for the NCIDQ examination. to top of page WRIT-1036 - Reason & Writing 1-Art & Design This course will introduce art and design students to essential principles of reading, writing, and reasoning at the postsecondary level. Students will identify, summarize, analyze, and evaluate multiple short readings and write persuasive response essays to develop their vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and critical thinking.
