Program Description
The Photography program provides training for students in
the professional aspects of the photography industry. Digital
SLR instruction will prepare the student for work in
photojournalism, architectural, advertising, product, industrial,
public relations, portrait, wedding and group photography.
Production work includes instruction in black and white, and colour
using digital printing systems. This program
integrates the use of high-end laptops and digital imaging software
in the curriculum.
Transfer Credits & Articulation Agreements
Graduates of this program may be eligible for advanced standing
credit to the Bachelor of Photography degree program at Griffith
University, Queensland, Australia.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the two year program will have good
employment possibilities as technicians, photographers and
assistants in small and large photographic studios, photo finishing
plants, government or other public or private agencies as sales
representatives or freelance artists.
Admission Requirements
OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (U/C), or Open (O) stream

Recommended Personal Preparation
- Applicants to the Photography program should determine if
they suffer from impairments which might hinder their visual
judgment. An assessment of the range of the individual's colour
perception would be valuable.
- Applicants are also alerted to the physical demands of
photography employment including long hours of work and a need to
carry heavy loads of equipment over long distances.
Applicant Selection Criteria
Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available
spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
- Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario.
- Receipt of Application by February 1st.
- Achievement in the Admission Requirements.
Note:
- *Students who are currently registered in the General Arts and
Science program at Fanshawe College or at any Ontario College of
Applied Arts and Technology must successfully complete their
General Arts and Science Ontario College Certificate with a minimum
2.0 GPA by April 30, 2010 in order to be eligible for admission
consideration in the immediately following year to
the Photography program.
Other Information
- Due to the academic rigor required in the Photography program,
applicants applying directly to this program from secondary school,
without additional post-secondary education, are encouraged to
consider applying to the General Arts and Science program.
The General Arts and Science program is an excellent preparatory
program.
- Students are expected to provide their own digital SLR camera
(approximately $1200.00), a hand-held light metre (approximately
$400.00) and an external firewire hard drive (approximately
$250.00)
- The Photography program is associated with the Professional
Photographers of Ontario (P.P.O.), The Professional Photographers
of Canada (P.P.O.C.) and the Professional Photographers of America
(P.P.A.).
- Terms are normally 15 weeks unless otherwise stated under
Campus Codes and Intakes and at www.fanshawec.ca/academicdates.
Approximate Costs
A CONNECT fee is included in the Additional Program Fees
stated in the Fee Schedule. The CONNECT fee is for
the use of a laptop computer for the academic year, costs
associated with curriculum delivery, relevant software, on-site
support, other program related technology. (See *Additional

Mobile Computing Programs
The CONNECT Laptop Project will ensure that graduates from Fanshawe
College will enter the workplace fully prepared for the future and
will have a strong competitive edge in the industry. Each
student will be issued an Apple MacBook Pro Laptop for
the mobile computing fee of $850.00 per academic level. Included in
the CONNECT service is the laptop computer for the exclusive use of
the student on a 24/7 basis, all appropriate software, technical
support, replacement and repair in the event of damage or
malfunction and a carrying bag. The mobile computing fee is
partially OSAP eligible. A Fanshawe College bursary is
available to help financially challenged students with the mobile
computing fee. Students are advised to apply for OSAP and for the
bursary as early as possible. Students are strongly advised to
purchase insurance to cover the Laptop for damages while in their
