Drug Awareness: Dynamics of Crystal Meth

This course will provide a detailed introduction to the dynamics of crystal methamphetamine. Within the last three years, Canadian provinces have witnessed a dramatic increase in the number of treatment and hospital admissions related to the use of crystal meth. Several provinces have also reported increased mortality rates resulting from the use and production of this drug. This course will examine the dynamics of crystal meth including terms, routes of administration, physical and psychological effects and the cycles of use. Attention will also be given to examining the drug within the context of brain function and the reward pathway. The course will be of particular interest to those working in the frontline, treatment or medical field.

First Responder
Course Code: HLTH-9252
This course prepares individuals to provide first response in an emergency. It provides an excellent link between the abilities of a Standard First Aid provider and full EMS response. It is aimed at emergency response professionals such as firefighters, police or first aiders in higher risk industrial environments. It is also the minimum requirement for some patient transfer services. Certification: Red Cross First Responder, AED & Level 'HCP' CPR. Valid 3 years for all parts of the certification except the HCP-CPR which is an annual recertification. Although First Responder does cover all components of the Standard First Aid HLTH-9107 it is recommended that participants have a valid Level C CPR before attending. Persons holding a valid SFA certification may recertify by writing the SFA test. Course length is 40+hours, some of this program will be taught outdoors. Registration deadline is 2 weeks prior to the first day of the course; there is an 81 page workbook that will be emailed to the participants. Wilderness & Remote First Aid Recertification

This course prepares individuals to provide care to the injured or ill when help may be hours away. The Canadian back county may be your place of retreat or employment, either way this course will better prepare you in the event of an emergency. You may choose to drift further afield and this course will cover some international first aid topics as well. Although Standard First Aid HLTH-9107 is not a required pre-requisite it is highly recommended. This course will cover: improvised c-collars and backboards, basic ice/water rescue, pressure points, irrigating wounds, hypothermia wrap, AMS, HAPE, HACE, SCUBA emergencies and even more.
