About Accessibility Services

Philosophy:

Fanshawe College and Accessibility Services are committed to providing equal educational access to students with disabilities.

A disability is defined by the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and includes non-visible disabilities such as a medical condition, learning disability or psychological disability.

Some students with disabilities may require academic accommodations to equalize opportunities to meet the academic demands of a course or program.

Admissions:

In accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and College policy, if you are an applicant who meets the published admission requirements to Fanshawe College, you are guaranteed equal consideration and access to academic programs and courses.

If you are an applicant with a disability who may require accommodations for pre-admission testing, you should contact Counselling and Accessibility Services so appropriate arrangements can be made.

Academic accommodations:

If you are a student with a documented disability, Fanshawe College will provide appropriate academic accommodations to enable you to perform the essential requirements of your course or program.

Accommodations are to be provided in a way that respects your privacy, dignity and integration. Because every student's needs are unique, yours will be considered on an individual basis.

Individual accommodations are established through discussion between you and your counsellor in Counselling and Accessibility Services. With your consent, professors or other College staff may be informed of your accommodation needs, without providing detailed personal information that could affect your privacy.

Of course, you are always free to share additional information about your disability or educational needs with others as you see fit.

If accommodations are required as an applicant or student, you are responsible for notifying the College through Counselling and Accessibility Services and providing supporting documentation.

The College, through the coordination of Counselling and Accessibility Services is then responsible for providing these necessary accommodations.
