Premier's Awards 2011

The Premier’s Awards for Outstanding College Graduates were held on November 28, 2011 in Toronto.

What an incredible event! Close to 800 people from colleges across Ontario gathered to celebrate the amazing things that college graduates accomplish. There were almost 30 people from Fanshawe College including staff, volunteers, alumni and nominees. Our alumni board was represented by:

  • Colleen Breen
  • Joseph Dunlop-Addley
  • Mandy Bennett
  • Kacey German
  • Catherine Finlayson
  • Veronica Barahona

The most incredible part of the evening was hearing the stories of all the nominees. We all know that college grads go on to do just about every job that exists, but hearing some of the stories in person is powerful. Our graduates are so very important to our society and economy.

All of this year’s winners are incredibly deserving. I can’t imagine a more difficult task than to sit on the selection panel. With each of the 24 Ontario Colleges able to nominate up to six graduates, the selection panel has a herculean task to pick six winners.

Our nominees this year were:

  • Danielle Aziz Community Service (Child and Youth Worker 1991)
  • Bruce Bonner - Technology (Civil Engineering Technology 1987)
  • Ian Campbell - Creative Arts & Design (Design (Industrial) 1982))
  • Lucky Heeley - Health Sciences (Respiratory Therapy 1992)
  • Randy Zupanski - Business (Hotel and Restaurant Management 1982)

Lucky is in California and Randy is in the Philippines, so they were unfortunately unable to attend. Ian was a keynote speaker at a conference in the US but his son Jordan kindly attended on his behalf. Danielle and Bruce both attended the event and had a great time. It was fantastic to be able to congratulate them in person on this prestigious nomination and to learn of the outstanding things they are doing in their fields. We are incredibly proud of them.

Congratulations to our 2011 Premier’s Awards nominees!
