10% of Incoming Students Get a Head Start at Fanshawe this Summer

July 5, 2011

More than 700 new Fanshawe College students will attend pre-orientation sessions from July 6 to 14, 2011, as part of the College's new Head Start program. Head Start offers soon-to-be first year students an opportunity to launch their Fanshawe experience early with tours, information sessions, and early access to services.

Spaces filled quicker than expected for the inaugural offering of half-day sessions, prompting the College to expand its programming to allow more Fall 2011 students to participate. The current registration of about 735 students in Head Start could account for roughly 10 per cent of the College's new student intake for this September.

Students who registered for Head Start will get the chance to learn about financial readiness, take a look at the London campus Residences, and receive their student ID cards early. Head Start also includes special sessions for parents and supporters.

Studies have repeatedly shown that students who engage early with their post-secondary institution are more likely to do well academically and socially, and Fanshawe hopes the Head Start program will contribute to improved student success. The College hopes this will help alleviate long lines during Orientation later this summer and at the beginning of the school year.
