Fanshawe College Participates in Oxford County Crisis Management Day
On Monday, June 13, 2011, students and faculty from Fanshawe College's Oxford County Campus teamed up with the Blandford Blenheim Fire Department, Ontario Provincial Police, Oxford Emergency Medical Services, Oxford County Victim Services and drama students from St. Mary's High School and Waterloo Oxford Secondary School for Crisis Management Day.
Fanshawe participants from Police Foundations and Practical Nursing programs worked together with emergency personnel throughout the day during three different simulated crisis scenarios - a plane crash, a car collision and a house fire.
Fanshawe Police Foundations and Practical Nursing students worked with emergency personnel to treat
casualties of three simulated disasters.
The situations provided an excellent learning opportunity for the students who benefited from hands-on involvement, while working under the direct supervision of emergency professionals.
The major crises simulated during the event would require a multitude of responders from different agencies to meet the needs of the victims and protect the general public. Drama students from St. Mary's High School and Waterloo Oxford Secondary School gave realistic performances as casualties and concerned family members, allowing Fanshawe students to practise skills learned in the classroom.

Crisis Management Day was held at the Blandford Blenheim Township Gravel Pit at the junction of Oxford Road #22 and Township Road #12.
