Fanshawe Hosts Canadian Anti-Terrorism Seminar

On Wednesday, March 4, 2009, Fanshawe College teamed with police to host the 2009 Canadian Anti-Terrorism Seminar.

Over 200 delegates representing all levels of policing, corrections, border services, intelligence services, as well the Canadian Forces, gathered to hear presentations surrounding issues of international and domestic terrorism.

photo of Dr. Jonathan Cole The event's keynote speaker was Dr. Jonathan Cole (in photo at right) of the Critical and Major Incident Unit at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Dr. Cole lectured on the topics of Risk Indicators for Terrorist Acts as well as Factors in Terrorist Recruitment.

Professor Oliver Stoetzer and John Legault of the Police Foundations and Law and Security Adminstration programs wish to thank the Ontario Gang Investigator's Association (ONGIA), Marion Dietze, Amy Doherty, and the staff from Facilities and Maintenance for their invaluable assistance and support in organizing this outstanding event. We also want to thank Detective-Constable Jeff Weyers of the Halton-Regional Police Service. D/Cst. Weyers is a Ph.D. Student at the University of Liverpool currently studying and researching the area of Terrorism Risk Assessment and Police Response.
