Fanshawe Students Hold Second Annual Golf Gala

April 3, 2009

photo March doesn't make for the best golf weather in Ontario, but 18 second-year students in the Golf and Recreational Club Management program were able to put together seven holes of golf, hors-d'oeuvres and drinks and it all happened March 20, 2009.

The second annual Golf Gala took place in Saffron's and drew about 60 people to an evening of golf in surroundings created by students who will eventually manage golf clubs, pro shops and club food and beverage operations.

Anne Pearson, coordinator of the program, said the gala brings together all of the organizational and management skills the students have learned over the course of the two-year program. "This is something they do that gives them hands-on experience," she said, "much more exciting than a written project."

The students designed the putting course and organized the food and beverages served. "It was a really good evening," Pearson said.

The two-year Tourism and Hospitality program is just three years old, so this is the second graduating class. Students are prepared to deliver food and beverage services, manage clubs including turf management and do club marketing including memberships and sales.
