New Communications for Health and Safety Training

July 24, 2009

Health and Safety training is a fundamental way of ensuring that employees are aware of hazards in their workplace, and understand the safeguards in place as well as the safe operating procedures provided by their employer.

Fanshawe's Health and Safety Services department has been working for the past 18 months developing training to help protect employees. Communication of training and its outcomes is a critical component of that process.

Starting July 20, 2009, employees are being notified by email of health and safety-related training they are required to complete. The email will include the name of the training session and the date of expected completion.

The initial email will be delivered to the employee four weeks prior to the expected completion date. The employee will continue to receive a weekly email reminder until the completion date is reached or the training has been taken.

Two weeks prior to the completion date, the employee's manager will receive the same communication. The manager will continue to receive the email on a weekly basis until the employee has completed the training.

FanshaweOnline (FOL) based training will continue to be found on an employee's FOL account. Classroom-based training will be regularly advertised in the Professional Development Newsletter published by Organizational Development and Learning and available in Fanshawe News. Employees will have the option of registering for courses directly as they do for other professional development opportunities.

Some frequently asked questions . . .

What if I don't have a fanshawec.ca email account?

Over 80 percent of Fanshawe employees have a work-based email account. Those who don't will be given one over the next few months. In the meantime, their manager will notify them about relevant training.

What if the training isn't listed on my FanshaweOnline account?

If the required training is not listed on your FOL account, please contact your FOL administrator or supervisor to have it added. (Health and Safety Services does not have access to add the training directly.)

How can I send feedback on the training?

Online training now includes a feedback evaluation form so employees can make suggestions or raise concerns regarding the content or delivery of the training.
