President's Message

September 5, 2011

As you are aware, support staff at Ontario colleges (and of course Fanshawe College) are currently on strike.  As a result, we have implemented contingency plans to ensure the College remains open and classes run as scheduled.  Our focus is to reduce, as much as possible, the impact on students.

As you attend class next week, please keep the following in mind to help with a positive start to your academic year:

  • Be courteous and patient when crossing the picket line. The best advice is to enter the campus on foot rather than bring an automobile to avoid significant delays.  If you must bring a car, again please be patient in these lineups and cross them slowly, being extremely careful that no one is hurt.  Click here for instruction on how to cross the picket line http://www.fanshawec.ca/sites/default/files/Picket%20Line%20Flyer_0.docx
  • You may experience reduced hours of operation for services such as financial aid, the book store, the library, etc.  Plan ahead as much as possible to avoid lineups
  • You can find the most up up to date hours of operation during the strike here: http://www.fanshawec.ca/ under “Support Staff Strike Update”

Fanshawe’s support staff are dedicated, caring staff who will want to return to support you as soon as possible. Please bear that in mind when you see them on the picket line.  Thank you in advance for your patience until we return to business as usual.

Have a great year at Fanshawe.

Howard Rundle
President
