Rick Hansen Relay Visits Fanshawe

On November 29, 2011, the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay team stopped at Fanshawe College. The Relay began on August 24, 2011, in Cape Spear, Newfoundland and will conclude in Vancouver, British Columbia on May 22, 2012.

The 12,000 kilometre Relay will retrace the original Man In Motion cross-Canada tour, travel through more than 600 communities and visit every capital city and all provinces and territories. It will reach more than 70% of the Canadian population. More than 7,000 participants will collectively cover an average of 40 to 80 kilometres a day, making their way across the country passing the Rick Hansen Medal to the next participant.

Rain couldn’t damper the enthusiasm of Student Union President Veronica Barahona and members of the varsity Cross-Country team.

Student Union President, Veronica Barahona was joined by members of the College’s Cross-Country team and mascot Freddie the Falcon as she carried the Rick Hansen medal from London Lane to a celebration held in 'H' Cafeteria. Lois Wey, Manager, Counselling and Accessibility Services spoke about the College’s ability to accommodate students and staff with physical limitations.
