Social Sciences Speaker's Series

October 3, 2008
Fanshawe's School of Language and Liberal Studies has announced its Social Sciences Speaker's Series, a series of lectures about relevant issues in Canadian society. Lectures highlight the research and academic profile of social scientists within the School of Language and Liberal Studies with the intention of linking faculties within the College to professors and students. The series also strives to connect the College with the community at large.

This year's theme is Youth in Canadian Society with an initial presentation of Student Disengagement and Disaffect, an issue that has become an epidemic in colleges and universities across the province. The presentation will discuss and analyse the trend from a sociological perspective in an attempt to answer questions such as: What is student disengagement and disaffection?  Why are Ontario college students disengaged?  And how can we solve or alleviate the problem?

Speakers are Dr. Amanda Zavitz-Gocan, coordinator of Social Science in the School of Language and Liberal Studies and Shannon Maheu, a partial load professor at Fanshawe and expert in human development.

Join us for the first presentation on Thursday, October 9, 2008, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in room D1060, London campus.
