:: Smoke-Free Ontario Act ::
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act came into force on May 31, 2006. This legislation prohibits smoking in all enclosed workplaces and enclosed public places. The legislation also binds the Crown and applies at Fanshawe College.

Enclosed workplaces and public places include offices, parking garages, vehicles used for work purposes, restaurants, bars, schools, private clubs, sports arenas and entertainment venues.

An enclosed place includes a location where there is a roof and more than two walls. "No Smoking" signs are required to comply with the regulation and must include the Ontario Trillium and Smoke-Free Ontario logo.

Signage at the College is in the process of being adjusted to comply with the regulation. Approved smoking locations on College property are under review and any changes will be communicated at a later date.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has six inspectors dedicated to the enforcement of this legislation and non-compliance can result in individual fines of $1,000.00 for a first offence and $5,000.00 for repeat offences.

Thank you for your co-operation.
