Journalism - Broadcast students learn skills to develop a
career as a Broadcast Journalist in electronic media, radio,
television and emerging broadcast media. Develop story
telling skills as a reporter using broadcast news gathering
equipment, audio and visual, news writing, newscasting, news
editing, interviewing, researching, documentary/current
affairs production, sportscasting, newsbeats, news
management, media law and media ethics.
Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's
new School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with
the latest in broadcast facilities.
The program offers practical, hands-on training with live on-air
performances on the college broadcast properties (e.g. Listen live
at CIXX-FM, The X 106.9FM
www.1069fm.ca, The Falcon at
www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio
at www.cfrlradio.ca, and
the new Stellar Radio, live video and audio at www.stellarradio.ca).

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:- Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario.
- Receipt of Application by February 1st.
- Achievement in the Admission Requirements.
- Assessment of Applicant's skill set relevant to the program based on a Supplemental Form.
Other Information
- Students should be prepared to work additional hours in the X-FM Newsroom and travel in the community gathering news stories. Fanshawe College has an agreement with Radio Fanshawe Inc. (X-FM) to provide "student staff" and services 24 hours a day from the beginning of September to May, continuously. Students will be assigned to work on the broadcast properties during holidays and weekends on a rotational basis.
- Graduates of this program may apply for admission to the one year Broadcast Journalism - Television News Ontario College Graduate Certificate program offered by Fanshawe College.
