Program Description

Business is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option. This program is designed for students with an interest in all aspects of business. The program provides students with general business know-how and the ability to build a customized curriculum to suit their needs and personal career goals through a wide variety of business electives. After a foundational first year, students choose courses in subject areas as diverse as supervisory management, green business, entrepreneurship, accounting, and web design. Students who would like a broad exposure to business and who desire a career in business management, whether in a large organization or a family business, will find this program particularly appealing. Fanshawe College's Business Ontario College Diploma is the ideal start to a business career.

Applicant Selection Criteria

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
  1. Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario.
  2. Receipt of Application by February 1st.
  3. Achievement in the Admission Requirements.

Co-operative Education

This is a two-year program with optional co-op.  Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a co-op endorsed diploma.  More information about co-operative education can be found at www.fanshawec.ca/coop

Other Information

  • The first semester of the Business program is common with other programs within the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, allowing for easy transfer between programs.
  • Students entering the first level of the program in January, March or May will proceed to level two of the program in September.
  • Many of the courses contained in the Business Ontario College Diploma program qualify as credits towards other specialized diploma programs (i.e. Business - Marketing, Business - Accounting, Business - Purchasing, Business - Insurance, Business - Human Resources, and Financial Planning Services), enabling students to earn a second diploma. 
  • Many courses in the program carry exemption credits towards designations with professional bodies, including:
    Canadian Institute of  Management (CIM)
    Canadian Institute of Entrepreneurship (CE)
    Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping (CB)
    Certified General Accountants Association (CGA)
    Canadian Institute of Financial Planners (CFP)
    Human Resources Professional Association (CHRP)
    Insurance Institute of Canada (CIP)
    Purchasing Management Association of Canada (CPP)
  • Students who graduate from the Business program may continue their studies on a full-time basis in either the Business Administration - Leadership and Management Advanced Diploma program or the International Business, Marketing or Professional Financial Services graduate programs offered by the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business or transfer credits to various universities via one of Fanshawe College's articulation agreements.
