Program Description

This three year co-operative program provides training in both the municipal and structural areas. The design of steel frame and reinforced concrete buildings is studied in the structural courses. Training is provided in materials testing and computer-aided drafting. Municipal topics include the design and construction of water distribution systems, storm, and sanitary sewerage networks, storm water management, and highways. Theories for the treatment of water, sewage, and solid wastes are analyzed. Survey courses provide training in the use of high-tech survey equipment and techniques of plane surveying, as related to the Civil Engineering profession. Applied research activities by Professors expose students to real life engineering practices, challenges and solutions.

Applicant Selection Criteria

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
  1. Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario.
  2. Receipt of Application by February 1st.
  3. Achievement in the Admission Requirements.
Note:
  • **Students admitted to the Fanshawe College Pre-Technology and Academic and Career Entrance Technology stream programs are guaranteed admission the following year to a Technology career program provided that they successfully complete their Pre-Technology Ontario College Certificate or Academic and Career Entrance Certificate and fulfill any other specified conditions.  Normally these students are admitted to their first choice program.

Co-operative Education

This three year program has three co-op work terms and one optional co-op work term.  Students who fulfill both the academic and co-op requirements of the program will be eligible to graduate with a co-op endorsed diploma.  More information about co-operative education can be found at www.fanshawec.ca/coop

Other Information

  • Students entering the program in January, 2012 will be in school continuously until the end of the Winter Term, 2013 before commencing a co-op term.
  • Terms are normally 15 weeks unless otherwise stated under Campus Codes and Intakes and at www.fanshawec.ca/academicdates.
