The Media Services Department of Library and Media Services welcomes you to enjoy the benefits of its services and resources. Listed below are Media Services policies and procedures on borrowing.

Media Software
Media Software includes such items as video recordings, films, slides, and audio recordings. All Media Software is available for loan and can be borrowed from the collections held in the Library for use within the College. Faculty may also borrow media software for College related activities elsewhere.

Media Hardware
The Hardware Loans section of Media Services lends a vast variety of media equipment to support approved course work of College curricula or to support College sponsored activities. No equipment will be loaned for use in connection with any commercial undertaking or for personal use.

Borrowing Privileges
Patrons must have current Fanshawe College photo identification card in order to borrow Media Hardware and Software.

Circulation
Media Software and Hardware is normally available only when a prior booking has been arranged. Bookings are handled on a strictly "first come, first served" basis.

Software Loans (519) 452-4147/4238
The length of the loan of any software material is negotiated at the time a booking is made. Generally software is requested to be returned immediately after use.

Hardware Loans (519) 452-4241
In order to share hardware resources in a responsible manner, the normal loan period does not exceed three days. Items may be extended for two additional days provided that the equipment is available. Only one extension will be allowed. Extensions are not permitted on overdue items. Hardware may be loaned providing the borrower demonstrates the ability to operate and care properly for the equipment to be borrowed. Some restrictions apply to the loan of certain types of equipment.

Responsibility
Borrowers are required to comply with all rules and regulations and are responsible for ensuring the safe and prompt return of all material checked out on their card. All borrowers incur equal responsibilities, obligations and penalties. Borrowers should immediately notify the Library in the event of loss, theft, or possible unauthorized use of the card.

Fines
The Library charges fines per day or part thereof for all overdue Media Hardware and Software. Daily fines are $5.00 /media software item / day and $20.00/media hardware item/day.

Maximum Fines
Maximum fines for media software are $100 per item. Maximum fines for media hardware are $200/ item. After 10 days replacement cost will be charged.Replacement charges for media hardware and software will be current market cost, plus taxes and handling fees.

Lost or Damaged Material
Any material lost or damaged will be replaced or repaired at the expense of the borrower in whose name it is charged out. The material will be replaced at the current market value plus taxes and handling charges. The unauthorised removal of and/or malicious damage to Media Services materials or equipment will result in the loss of library privileges, the charging of replacement and processing costs of the item and/or prosecution.

Consequences of Outstanding Accounts
Library privileges, grades, diplomas, and transcripts will be withheld until all outstanding accounts are settled.

Copyright 
Media Software is administered in strict observance of the College's "Policy Concerning Compliance with Copyright Legislation" GP.1.325 and with the associated document developed by Library and Media Services. See: Policy 2-I-3, section 11.0. Software not owned by Library and Media Services must be accompanied by written copyright clearance, supplied by the copyright holder, before viewing is allowed.

Restrictions  
Some media may have certain copyright restrictions. 
Students from other colleges and universities, and guest borrowers, may use Library Media Software within the Library.

Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) (519) 452-4147 
Video playbacks to classrooms are available via the College Closed Circuit Television System (C.C.T.V.) or videos may be borrowed from the Media Services Department for use throughout the college. 
Bookings for playbacks are handled on a "first come, first served" basis within the capacity of available channels.

Reserve Materials 
Faculty members may find it necessary to recommend that media in heavy demand be restricted to library use only. This method guarantees that material is in the Library at all times. Please ask at the Media Services Circulation Desk for Reserve Material.

Screening Rooms  
Screening rooms are available to students who wish to view media software. Booking of the screening rooms is on a "first come, first served" basis.

Screening Carrels 
Some screening carrels in the library are equipped with TV/video cassette players to facilitate the viewing of media software owned by Media Services. 

Copyright restrictions also apply to materials viewed in the Library's screening carrels.
