Fanshawe invites all, students, staff and faculty to Innovate 2021 with opportunities to compete, vote, submit and review showcased work, participate in workshops and provide your opinion. The pandemic has had a rapid and significant impact on all aspects of our lives and the need to innovate has in recent months, come more sharply into focus. Through disruption innovation rises to new challenges. Please join us to see how Fanshawe has and will continue to innovate in 2021.

Below is a list of planned events that will promote and celebrate our student, staff and faculty research, entrepreneurship and innovative thinkers. You are invited to join us at any or all of these virtual sessions. We look forward to seeing you there!

My Virtual Pitch (MVP) Competition

Hosted by Leap Junction. Current students have submitted their 60 to 90 second video pitch for Leap Junction's second MVP competition. You are invited to review and vote for your favourite pitch.

Online voting is taking place from March 15 to 21, 2021. Winners will be announced on March 23.

Research and Innovation Day

Hosted by The Centre for Research and Innovation
Friday, March 26, 2021 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

You are invited to participate in Research and Innovation Day 2021. This virtual event will feature research posters and a short video elevator pitch from Fanshawe students, faculty and staff. Research and Innovation Day celebrates Fanshawe’s reputation as an institute that pushes the future of research and development to drive solutions for Canada and the globe while celebrating the world-class experience of our faculty, students and staff.

Submission deadline is Sunday, March 14, 2021.

Design Thinking Workshop

Hosted by Leap Junction
Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Design Thinking is the iterative process of redefining problems, re-examining solutions, challenging assumptions and understanding the needs of users.

In this workshop, you will learn about design thinking and how to apply it to everyday challenges. Additionally, participants will practice design thinking on real-world problems. This free session is open to students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members. Students who attend will be eligible for co-circular record.

Maker Exploration

Hosted by Library Learning Commons (LLC)
Wednesday, March 24, 2021, beginning at 1 p.m.

Everyone is invited to this virtual drop in to watch a workshop demonstration of 3D printing. Join Library Learning Commons staff to learn about 3D printing in the LLC. Topics will include a brief overview of 3D printing, some of the basics including locating 3D models, tools for creating your own 3D models, how to submit your files for printing, and 3D printing policies.

A pre-recorded video on how to use a cricut machine will also be available. The versatile cricut machine cuts all kinds of materials – paper, vinyl, thin wood and leather! If you consider yourself a crafter or DIYer, come check out the limitless possibilities!

Speakers Corner

Monday, March 15 to Wednesday, March 31, 2021, between 2 and 4 p.m.

Hosted by the FSU, students are invited to share their opinion on innovation, what it looks like, who drives it, why it is important and how Fanshawe can help students be more innovative.

Students are invited to sign into a zoom meeting on one of the two above dates and answer a short question about innovation. Comments will be pre-recorded and all participants will be entered into a draw to win one of six $25 gift cards. This event is open to all current, full time students.

The need for Innovation Village in Fanshawe’s future is more important than ever. The pandemic has had a rapid and significant impact on our current lives and teaching practices. Only cultural transformation will enable more internal innovation, seamless collaboration and a new mindset for how we work.
