Fanshawe College’s remarkable three-floor Student Wellness Centre, a partnership between the College and the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU), provides state-of-the-art recreation and fitness facilities for students at the College’s London Campus.
This innovative campus resource offers students improved access to a comprehensive suite of fitness, athletic, wellness and health services and programs.
In addition to housing the College's athletics programming, the Centre incorporates modern spaces for the delivery of health services such as the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic, massage therapy, yoga, meditation and other wellness programming. It also has flexible fitness areas for strength training, cardio and group exercise as well as a 36-foot climbing wall, a pharmacy, a juice bar and several quiet rooms for relaxation and stress relief.
The original fitness and double gymnasium facility, the Community Fitness Centre, was built in 1993 and a third gymnasium was added in 2003. In May 2011, the FSU and Fanshawe identified expanded fitness and wellness facilities and services as a high priority to help ensure a premier college learning and student life experience. In May 2014, the FSU announced students would contribute $24 million toward the College’s historic $100 million Remarkable Campaign, specifically to fund the building of the new Student Wellness Centre.
The building was designed with sustainability in mind and features dynamic glass to reduce glare and solar heat gain in the summer, solar hot water heating, a green roof, LED lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures and low-VOC paints and finishes. The end result is a facility equipped to serve the changing needs of Fanshawe's diverse student body for decades to come.
- Fanshawe’s commitment to academic quality and student success is stronger than ever.
- In 2018, Ayden Miller (keyboard/synthesizer), Stefan Boulineau (lead vocals) and Cole Wilson (lead guitar) formed their band New Friends while working together in the studio of Fanshawe Music Industry Arts program.
