If you come across a fire, remember to REACT!

Remove persons in immediate danger.
Ensure doors are closed to confine fire/smoke.
Activate the nearest fire pull station (which will notify the fire department).
Call the Security Control Centre (519-452-4242).
Try to extinguish the fire only if you are trained and it is safe to do so.

What to do when you hear the fire alarm

1001 Fanshawe Blvd Campus (2-stage fire alarm system):

Upon hearing the Stage 1 alert signal (slow periodic signal):

  • You don't need to leave the building, but be ready to go.
    • The Emergency Management Office and Security are checking things out.
  • Assist mobility-impaired individuals with evacuating (do not wait for the Stage 2 alarm).

Upon hearing the Stage 2 alarm signal (continuous high pitch triple signal):

  • Leave the building calmly and report to the nearest evacuation assembly area and remain there until College emergency or fire personnel tell you it is safe to re-enter building.
  • Instruct others to evacuate the building by using the stairwells, do not use the elevator.
    • If you encounter smoke, use an alternate exit.
  • Follow directions of emergency responders.
  • Do not re-enter building until College emergency or fire department personnel authorize it.

All other Fanshawe College campuses (single-stage buildings):
