Fanshawe Sustainability Office and First Nations Centre plant trees.

On May 24, 2014, Sustainability at Fanshawe College, along with Fanshawe College's First Nations Centre, joined Reforest London for their annual tree planting ceremony at the Celebration Forest. Located behind Parkwood Hospital, adjacent to the Westminster Ponds Environmentally significant area, the Celebration Forest was established in May 2011 as an ongoing naturalization project sponsored by donors wishing to plant trees in memory of celebration of loved ones.

In honour of the First Nations communities surrounding London, ten cedar trees were donated by Sustainability at Fanshawe College and planted this past weekend at the Celebration Forest. Cedar trees were chosen because of their significance as one of four medicinal ingredients used in smudging, an important cleansing and healing ceremony of Indigenous Peoples.

Thank you so much to First Nations Centre staff, and their friends and families for coming out on a beautiful day to dig in the earth and plant new life.
