(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics, in collaboration with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), announced today that Danielle Carriere will be participating in the CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program with the Fanshawe Women's Basketball team for the 2017-18 season.

Danielle graduated with honours from Saginaw Valley State University, a NCAA Division II school in Saginaw, Michigan.  She played both shooting guard and small forward for the Cardinals from 2012-2016 and was a three year captain for the program. Carriere helped lead the team to the program's first-ever GLIAC North Division Championship and to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. She currently holds the SVSU single game record of seven made 3-pointers (7/10) and is seventh in all-time 3-pointers made.

Danielle will be mentored by Fanshawe Falcons Women's Basketball Head Coach Bill Carriere, who believes she will be a huge asset to the team and a tremendous role model for the ladies. “Danielle's high IQ of the game, skill level, as well as her ability to develop a rapport with the student-athletes, will be extremely beneficial to our program”, expressed Carriere.

The CCAA Female Apprentice Coach Program targets female graduating student-athletes to participate in collegiate sport as apprentice coaches. The program provides grants for professional development opportunities and operational costs while the apprentice coaches aid in player scouting, team communications, training exercises, skill development and administrative duties throughout the season.
