WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:

 

Last week, the #10 CCAA ranked Women's Basketball team (17-5) were on the road at the OCAA Provincial Championships, hosted by Niagara College.

 

On Thursday afternoon, the Falcons took to the court versus the St. Lawrence Vikings (9-7).  The Falcons jumped out to an early nine point lead and would never look back.  Fanshawe would win the game by a final score of 64-49.  Fanshawe's captain and OCAA Second Team All-Star Laura Vere was named the Player of the Game, after filling the stat sheet with 10 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. The Falcons would then play in the semi-final on Friday at 6pm versus the #2 ranked Humber Hawks (21-0).

 

On Friday, the Falcons took to the court versus the Hawks.  Fanshawe's defense kept Humber in check in the first but the Falcons trailed 11-6 after one quarter.  Humber took a double digit lead in the second and pulled away, winning by a final score of 71-49. 

 

Fanshawe's Anique Daley was named the Player of the Game.  With the loss, the Falcons would now head to the OCAA Bronze Medal Final on Saturday afternoon.

 

On Saturday, the Falcons took on the Algonquin Thunder (13-4) for the bronze.  Fanshawe was behind for the first three quarters but made a huge comeback in the final quarter.  The Falcons won the fourth quarter 26-6 enroute to capturing the OCAA bronze medal.  Mikhalia Wright was named the Falcons Player of the Game with 14 points, 3 assists and 3 steals in the game. Fanshawe Women's Basketball last won an OCAA medal back in 2013, when they took home the silver against the same Algonquin Thunder in the final.

 

The Falcons finished the OCAA Championship with a record of 2-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of the undefeated #2 CCAA ranked and eventual champion Humber Hawks (21-0).  For her phenomenal play throughout the tournament, Fanshawe's Anique Daley was named a Championship All-Star.

 

 

 

WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER:

 

The Women's Indoor Soccer Team competed in the OCAA Regional Championships last Tuesday in Vaughan, Ontario.  The ladies finished with a record of 3-1, with wins over the University of Toronto – Mississauge (2-0), St. Lawrence – Brockville (5-0) and Confederation (4-0).  Their only loss came at the hands of the Centennial Colts (1-0).  The Falcons finished in second place in their pool and have qualified for the OCAA Provincial Championships March 18-19 in Ancaster, Ontario.

 

 

 

MEN'S INDOOR SOCCER:

 

Last Wednesday, the Fanshawe Men's Indoor Soccer Team competed in the OCAA Regional Championships in Vaughan, Ontario.  The Falcons finished the tournament in first place, going undefeated, with a record of 3-0-1.  Fanshawe started off with three victories including wins over Sault College (4-0), Lakehead (9-0) and Sheridan (2-1), before a 0-0 draw with the Seneca Sting.  With the first place finish, the Falcons have earned a spot into the OCAA Provincial Championships March 18-19 in Ancaster, Ontario.
