MEN'S BASEBALL:

It was a successful weekend for the Men's Baseball team, who went 3-0 on the road. They are now in third place in the OCAA Standings with an overall record of 4-3.

On Friday, September 25, the Falcons beat George Brown by a score of 6-4 in game one. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to time restraints and will be finished at a later date.

On Saturday, Fanshawe travelled to Seneca to take on the Sting. In game one, Mike Ambrose went 2 for 3 with one run, 3 RBIs and a walk as the Falcons won 5-2. Fanshawe won the second game of the doubleheader, 11-2, with Ambrose, Ian Kerrigan and Chris Mcqueen all contributing 2 RBIs.

Fanshawe will continue their stretch of road games when they travel to take on the Durham Lords on Saturday, October 3 at 1pm and 3:30pm and then Humber on Sunday, October 4 at 1pm and 3pm.

WOMEN'S SOFTBALL:

The Fanshawe Softball team went 5-1 this past week and moved up to fourth place in the OCAA Standings.

On Wednesday, September 23, the Falcons lost their opening game on the road against Conestoga, 6-2. Fanshawe bounced back, winning the second game 8-2. Last week's OCAA Women's Softball Athlete of the Week, Kady Hawkins, had Fanshawe's first home run of the season. Pitcher Alanna Gilmour had 10 strikeouts.

Fanshawe was back at home this weekend and on Friday, September 25 defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 7-0 and 17-6.  In the first game of the doubleheader, Rachel Dotzert went 2 for 3 from the plate, with 2 runs and 3 RBIs. In game two, Carlene Clapperton led the team with 3 RBIs.  

On Sunday, Fanshawe shutout Seneca College, winning 10-0 and 5-0. Pitcher Lydia Kalbfleisch held the Sting to only one hit and one walk in the first game. Alanna Gilmour pitched an amazing no-hitter in game two.

Fanshawe will head to Mohawk on Wednesday, September 30 to take on the Mountaineers. The game times will be at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

MEN'S SOCCER:

The Fanshawe Men's Soccer team is now 3-0-1 on the season, after defeating Conestoga 4-0 on Saturday. They were also #13 in the CCAA National Rankings this past week.

The Falcons started with a bang at home on Saturday afternoon. Brent Anderson's beautiful cross set up Chad Gopaul for a header to go up 1-0. Yasmine Halkic also netted a goal to put the Falcons up 2-0 at half. Cedric N'Guessen and Alberto Barquin both scored in the second half to extend the lead. Fanshawe controlled the play and held Conestoga to only one shot on goal. Fanshawe leads the OCAA in goals against with zero.  

Fanshawe looks to continue their winning streak Tuesday, September 29 when they will travel to Sarnia to face Lambton College at 5pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER:

The Fanshawe Women's Soccer team is in first place in the OCAA West Division standings with a 3-0 win at home versus Conestoga on Saturday.

Fanshawe wasted no time, with Niki McDonald scoring in the 8th minute. Katie Rowe and Jade Kovacevic also scored for the Falcons. Kovacevic's goal was her 13th and ties the Fanshawe mark for most goals in a season. Goalkeeper Julie Rovere recorded her third shutout of the season.

Last week, Kovacevic was named both the OCAA and CCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week. She is currently leading the CCAA in average goals per game with 3.25.

The Fanshawe Women's Soccer team will take the field again on Wednesday, September 30, when they go on the road to play the Lambton Lions at 5pm.

CROSS COUNTRY:

The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were up north this weekend and participated in the Sault College Invitational on Saturday, September 26.

The Falcons Men's team took home their second consecutive invitational win of the season. The team was led by Seth Marcaccio finishing the 8 km course in first place with a time of 28:29. Ryan Foott came in third place with a 29:23 time. Rounding out the top ten were Caleb Trotter (30:36) and Josh Heuving (30:40).

The women's squad had a strong race with Morgan Hendriks (23:46) and Laura Travaglini (23:55) as the top Fanshawe runners finishing in 11th and 13th place over the 5 km course. 

The teams' next race will be on the road on Saturday, October 3, when they will run in the St. Lawrence Brockville Invitational.

 

GOLF:

The Golf team will compete in the 2015 OCAA Golf Championships at Hunter's Pointe Golf Course in Niagara Falls from Monday, September 28 to Wednesday, September 30.
