MEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

Fanshawe won their fourth straight game last week to improve to 8-1 on the season.  The Falcons are in first place in the OCAA West Division and are ranked #1 in Ontario and #4 in Canada.

On Friday, the Falcons hosted the #14 ranked Redeemer Royals (5-3).  The Falcons were fired up to start the first set and jumped ahead early 6-3.  Fanshawe continued to be aggressive at the net and after Nate Van Camp hit a massive overkill for the point, Redeemer called a timeout down 10-4.  Setter Sebastian Lethbridge was spreading the ball around to everyone, with four different Falcons scoring at least twice in the set.  Fanshawe would take the first set 25-17.

With the Falcons up 10-9 in the second set, Fanshawe's James Jackson and Evan Ravn denied the Royals attack three times in the same rally, ending in a huge stuff block for Fanshawe.  The Falcons offense was rolling and led by as many as five in the set, 18-13.  Redeemer clawed back to within one, 21-20, but Fanshawe's attack was too much as they pulled away and won the set 25-22.

Lethbridge started the third set with a block, which fueled the Falcons attack.  Fanshawe led 5-1 early in the third set but the Royals continued to stick around.  Redeemer once again closed the gap to one but missed serves by the Royals kept the Falcons ahead.  With Lethbridge serving and the Falcons leading 14-12, Fanshawe scored five straight to take a commanding 19-12 lead.  Fanshawe would finish the game on an 11-4 run to win 25-16.

Fanshawe led early in the second set with a number of big kills on the outside by Hunter Medd.  Leading 15-11, Fanshawe's Libby Furtado had back-to-back kills in the middle to push the Falcons lead to seven.  With the score 24-18, Fanshawe's Lindsay Wilcox made two diving digs that eventually led to a Fanshawe kill, giving the Falcons the second set victory.

The Falcons Darian Gropp started the third set with a pair of aces to give Fanshawe the early lead.  With the score 10-8 for Fanshawe, the Royals scored four straight to take a 12-10 lead.
