MEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

 

The Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team won their only league game last week, extending their winning streak to five games.  The Falcons are in second place in the OCAA West Division and are ranked #3 in Canada.

 

Last Wednesday, the Falcons were on the road versus the #15 ranked Redeemer Royals (6-5). The Falcons took care of business in three straight sets winning 25-16, 25-13 and 25-19.  James Jackson led the Falcons in scoring with 14 points (12 kills, 2 aces) while Nate Van Camp finished with 11.

 

The Falcons also took part in an exhibition trip to the USA last week.  Fanshawe went undefeated on the trip, defeating SUNY-IT 3-1, Rivere University 3-0 and Wentworth-IT 3-2.

 

Fanshawe is on the road again Thursday, January 19 facing the OCAA West Division leading and #7 ranked Mohawk Mountaineers (10-1) at 8pm. Mohawk is the only team to defeat the Falcons so far this season.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

 

The Women's Volleyball team went 1-0 last week and is in fifth place in the OCAA West Division.

 

On Wednesday evening, the Falcons travelled to Ancaster, Ontario to take on the Redeemer Royals (4-7). The Falcons won the match 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-20.  New recruit Meghan Morelli had a big match in her first game as a Falcon with a game-high 19 points, including 14 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks.

 

Next Thursday, January 19, the Falcons head to Mohawk to take on the Mountaineers (7-4) at 6pm.

MEN'S BASKETBALL:

 

The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team fell to the #2 CCAA ranked Sheridan Bruins (9-0) last week and are now in fourth place in the OCAA West Division.

 

Last Wednesday, the Falcons were on the road facing the undefeated Sheridan Bruins.  After falling behind early in the first quarter, Fanshawe clawed back and a three pointer by DeAndre Austin at the halftime buzzer, gave the Falcons the 44-42 lead at the break.  The Bruins pulled ahead in the third quarter and went on to win the game by 12, 90-78.  Fanshawe's Austin had a game-high 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting.  New recruit Lex Van Iperen had a double double for the Falcons with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

 

The Falcons next game takes place during Falcons Fest this Saturday, January 21 versus the Humber Hawks (8-2) at 7pm.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:

 

The Fanshawe Women's Basketball team won their only game last week to improve their record to 7-3.  Fanshawe is in third place in the OCAA West Division and is ranked #5 in Ontario.

 

Last Wednesday, the Falcons were on the road versus the Sheridan Bruins (2-9).  Fanshawe only led by two after the first quarter but the team turned up the offense and led 35-29 at the half.  The Falcons held Sheridan to just 10 points in the third quarter on their way to the 71-50 win. Four Falcons scored in double figures with Ali Vlasman leading the way with 14.

 

The Falcons are back in action at home on Saturday, January 21 as they host the #1 ranked Humber Hawks (10-0) at 5pm as part of Fanshawe's Falcons Fest.

BADMINTON:

 

The Fanshawe Men's and Women's Badminton teams participated in the Centennial Invitational Tournament this past weekend.  Some of the best results included Women's singles, where both Trina Ngu and Tilu Vaidya made the quarter finals but lost to the #2 and #4 seeds, respectively.  The Men's doubles team of Allan Pao and San Dang knocked off the #7 seed before they were defeated by the #1 seed in the quarter final.  In the mixed division, the #5 ranked Fanshawe team of Dang and Riley Hogan lost in the quarter finals to the #3 seed, while the team of Thao Le and Trina Ngu lost to the #1 seed also in the quarter finals.  The furthest one of the Falcon teams went was in Women's doubles, where the Ngu sisters (Trina and Helen) lost in the semi-finals versus the Humber Hawks.

 

 

The Badminton teams are back on the road this coming weekend when they travel to St. Clair College for their Invitational Tournament.

 

 

CURLING:

 

The Fanshawe Curling teams are headed to the Humber Cup this Friday, January 20 to take part in the Hawks Invitational Tournament.
