The Fanshawe Men's Baseball team (13-7) had an impressive week, finishing with a record of 6-2, including six straight wins, propelling themselves into a tie for second in the OCAA Baseball standings. 


Last Tuesday, the Falcons hosted the Humber Hawks (13-7).  Unfortunately, the Hawks won both games of the doubleheader by scores of 6-3 and 9-5.  Fanshawe's Robert Doyle (1-1) and Matt Smith (0-1) would both take a loss.  Travis Helps did go 4 for 6 for the Falcons on the day with a pair of doubles.


On Thursday, Fanshawe travelled to Durham College to take on the Lords (11-7).  In dramatic fashion, Fanshawe won both games by scores of 6-5 and 3-1.  In both games, Durham loaded the bases in the final inning of play but a big double play and a diving catch in left centre field preserved the wins for the Falcons.  The winning pitchers for Fanshawe were Tyler Rymal (2-2) and Tyler Wood (1-0).



On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons hosted the Seneca Sting (5-15).  The Falcons won the first game 10-0 in just six innings.  In the second game, the score was tied at one to start the final inning of play.  Fanshawe's Hayden Regnier hit a single to lead off the inning.  Two batters later, Fanshawe's Doyle hit a double to right centre field and the Falcons walked off and won the game 2-1.  Kyle Zimmer (3-1) and Corey Boehmer (2-1) would be the winning pitchers for the Falcons.


On Sunday, the Falcons hosted their final league games of the year versus the George Brown Huskies (1-19).  Fanshawe won both games in just five innings by scores of 19-1 and 10-0.  Both Tyler Rose (2-0) and Andrew Calic (1-0) would get a win, each pitching a scoreless fifth inning.


The Falcons will now head to the OCAA Provincial Championship at Humber College on October 21-22.  The Falcons will take on the host Hawks on Friday at 11am in their first game of the Championship.

The Fanshawe Women's Softball team (16-6) went 5-1 this week with two wins versus Conestoga and Mohawk and a split with Humber.  Fanshawe is now in second place in the OCAA Softball standings with two games to go.


On Wednesday, the Falcons hosted the Conestoga Condors (12-10).  The Falcons won both games of the doubleheader by scores of 5-0 and 7-6. Fanshawe's Jacey Lochert (4-1) and Lydia Kalbfleisch (3-4) would each get a win. 


Last Friday at Senior's night, the Falcons had their final home game of the year, when they hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-15).  Fanshawe would win the games by scores of 11-1 (5 innings) and 9-3.  Pitcher's Alanna Gilmour (7-1) and Kalbfleisch would get the wins for the Falcons.


On Sunday afternoon, the Falcons were on the road taking on the Humber Hawks (13-11).  The Falcons bats would be on fire in game one, including out-of-the-park homeruns by Reannah Hogarth-McLean, Racheal Dotzert and Kady Hawkins.  Fanshawe would win the game 10-3.  Lochert would get the complete game win for Fanshawe. In game two, the Hawks would hit a big three run homerun of their own and beat the Falcons 5-3.  Kalbfleisch would take the loss.


The Falcons have one doubleheader remaining in the regular season versus the Mohawk Mountaineers.  Fanshawe has clinched a spot in the OCAA Softball Provincial Championship tournament but their seeding is still to be determined.  The tournament starts on Friday, October 21 at Conestoga College.

The Fanshawe Men's Soccer team won both games last week to stay tied on top of the OCAA West Division.  The Falcons have one game remaining in the regular season versus the #10 CCAA ranked St. Clair Saints (7-1-1).  Fanshawe is ranked #4 in Ontario and #13 in Canada.


On Tuesday, the Falcons hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-4-1) for their final home game of the year.  Fanshawe won the game 2-0 with goals by Robert M'Boko and Jacob Atkinson. 


On Saturday, Fanshawe was on the road versus the Lambton Lions (3-4-2).  The Falcons won the game by a final score of 2-1.  Fanshawe's M'Boko and Thomas Sackor would score the two goals for the Falcons.


Fanshawe will head to Windsor on Wednesday, October 19 in a battle to determine first place in the OCAA West Division standings versus the St. Clair Saints.  The winner will get a bye to the OCAA Provincial Championship, while the loser will need to play in a cross-over playoff game.

The Women's Soccer team (9-0) won both games this past week to remain undefeated on the season with one game remaining.


Fanshawe has clinched first place in the OCAA West Division and will have a bye to the OCAA Provincial Championship.  The Falcons are ranked #2 in Ontario and #5 in Canada.


Last Wednesday, Fanshawe hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers (5-4).  Fanshawe won the game 1-0 on a goal by Sheree Uyl.  On Saturday, the Falcons were on the road versus the Lambton Lions (0-8-1).  The Falcons took care of business, winning 3-0 and solidifying themselves as the number one seed in the OCAA West Division standings.


The Falcons will head to St. Clair (7-1-1) on Wednesday to take on the Saints.  It will be the final regular season game of the year before Fanshawe heads to the OCAA Provincial Championship starting Thursday, October 27.

This past weekend, the Men's Volleyball team competed in the Seneca College Invitational.  The Falcons went 4-0 in pool play with wins over Canadore, Seneca, Humber and Redeemer.  Fanshawe would play the Mohawk Mountaineers in the Tournament Final and fall 3-2, with a score of 16-14 in the final set.  Fanshawe's Andre Foreman, David Gundrum and Nate Van Camp were named Tournament All-Stars.  The Falcons will play next on Saturday, October 22 at 7:30pm at York University.

The Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team took part in the Niagara College Invitational this past weekend.  The Falcons had a very successful weekend, finishing pool play undefeated with wins over Seneca, Loyalist and Niagara.  The Falcons would face the Humber Hawks in the tournament final and fall in three straight sets 25-14, 25-22 and 25-19.  Fanshawe was awarded the silver medal and outside hitter Hunter Medd received a Tournament All-Star award.


Fanshawe's regular season begins on Wednesday, October 26 at home versus the Niagara Knights.  The game starts at 6pm.

Last week, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team won their exhibition game versus the Laurier Golden Hawks and then went 1-1 at the Durham College Tip-Off Tournament.


On Wednesday, the Falcons hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks in exhibition play.  After being down by four heading to the final quarter, Fanshawe came back to win the game 78-74.


At the Durham College Tip-Off Tournament, Fanshawe started off against the John Abbott Islanders.  The Falcons played fantastic defense and won the game 79-45.  In their second game of the tournament, the Falcons were in a battle with the St. Clair Saints and at the half, were only down 39-37.  The Saints pulled away in the second half and won the game by a final score of 86-67.


The Falcons have one more exhibition game at home versus the Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday, October 19 at 7pm before their regular season begins.

This past Saturday, the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams raced at the Seneca College Invitational.  The Fanshawe Men's team won the team race again, with Seth Marcaccio and Ryan Foott finishing first and third respectively. The Women finished in seventh place overall but Morgan Hendriks finished third individually.


Fanshawe will be back at Seneca College on October 29 for the OCAA Provincial Championship race.  The Women's race starts at 11am and the Men's begins at 12pm.




The Men's and Women's Badminton teams competed in their first tournament of the year this past weekend at Humber College.  Overall, the Falcons had a great showing.  In Men's singles, both San Dang and Anush Krishnamoorthy made it to the round of 16 in the ‘A' flight before falling to two top four seeds.  In Women's singles, Trina Ngu made the quarter finals of the ‘A' flight, while Helen Ngu won the consolation final. Men's doubles saw Thao Le and San Dang make the ‘A' quarter finals and in Women's doubles, Trina Ngu and Tarea Heshka won the ‘C' Championship.  In mixed doubles, Thao Le and Trina Ngu made the ‘A' quarters before losing to the #2 ranked team.  The Falcons are back in action November 18-20, when they host the Fanshawe College Invitational Tournament.

… Robert Doyle of the Men's Baseball team, pitched four scoreless innings in last Sunday's win versus the George Brown Huskies.  Of his 12 outs, nine of them were strikeouts – a Fanshawe record for strikeouts in a game


The Men's Baseball team is headed to the OCAA Provincial Championship for a third straight year.  In the first game of the Championship, the Falcons will play the Humber Hawks – the same team they have beaten in the opening game of the Championship the last two years


… Amber Preszcator from the Women's Softball team has hit five homeruns this season – a Fanshawe record for homeruns in a season
