MEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

 

The Falcons went 2-0 this week and remain undefeated on the season.  Fanshawe is in first place in the OCAA West Division and is ranked #1 in Ontario and #3 in Canada.

 

The Falcons were on the road on Saturday versus the Cambrian Golden Shield (1-3).  Fanshawe won the match in three straight sets 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21.  Kevin Best had 10 points (9 kills, 1 block) for Fanshawe while Cody Osiecki had eight points including five service aces.

 

On Sunday, Fanshawe continued their road trip with a match versus the Boreal Viperes (0-4).  One again, the Falcons took care of business in three straight sets 25-23, 25-14 and 25-17.  Best finished with a game-high seven points.

 

The Falcons next matchup takes place on Saturday, November 12 as Fanshawe returns home to battle the #6 ranked Mohawk Mountaineers (2-0).  The game starts at 3pm.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL:

 

The Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team won both of their matches last weekend to even their record at 2-2.  Fanshawe is in fifth place in the OCAA West Division. 

 

On Saturday, the Falcons took on the Cambrian Golden Shield (1-3).  Fanshawe took an early 2-0 lead with wins of 28-26 and 25-18.  Cambrian battled back and took the next two sets 25-23 and 25-15, forcing a fifth and deciding set.  Fanshawe would prevail, winning a close contest 15-13.  Lindsay Wilcox and Hunter Medd each had 16 points for the Falcons.

 

On Sunday, the Falcons faced off against the Boreal Viperes (0-4).  Fanshawe won the match in straight sets, 25-17, 27-25 and 25-16.  Medd led the Falcons with 11 kills.

 

Fanshawe will be back at home next weekend when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-1).  The game takes place on Saturday, November 12 at 1pm.

MEN'S BASKETBALL:

 

The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team went 2-0 this past weekend and are now in fourth place in the OCAA West Division.

 

On Saturday night, the Falcons hosted Sault College (0-4). The Cougars came out aggressive and the Falcons took an early timeout with the score tied at five.  Fanshawe then pulled ahead by four and led 24-20 after the first quarter.  The Falcons took advantage in the paint and made their free throws, taking a 43-34 lead into the second half.  Fanshawe extended their lead in the third but the Cougars clawed back into the game and were only down by 10 heading to the final quarter.  Fanshawe once again pulled ahead in the fourth and after a 14-2 run, Fanshawe went on to win the game by a final score of 86-67.

 

On Sunday afternoon, Fanshawe hosted the Cougars once again.  The Falcons fell behind early in the first quarter on some good outside shooting by the Cougars.  The Falcons came back and tied the game on a great drive by DeAndre Austin.  The Falcons were in early foul trouble, allowing the Cougars to keep the game close.  After the first quarter, the Falcons led 17-16.  Fanshawe started taking the ball to the basket and pulled ahead 25-20 in the second quarter.  After a Cougars timeout, the Falcons continued to dominate in the post with Alfred Johnston scoring back-to-back baskets at the rim.  Fanshawe scored 15 straight at one point and led 40-24 heading into halftime.  In the third, the Cougars closed the gap to 14 but Fanshawe still led 56-42 with one quarter to play.  In the fourth, the Falcons pulled away and won the game by a final score of 79-58. Johnston finished with a game-high 25 points while Filip Pejic had a double-double for Fanshawe with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Fanshawe's next game takes place on the road on Friday, November 11, when they travel to Sarnia, Ontario to take on the Lambton Lions (0-1).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:

 

The Falcons won both games this past weekend versus the Sault Cougars and are now in third place in the OCAA West Division.  The Falcons are ranked #13 in the CCAA.

 

On Saturday, Fanshawe took on the Saults Cougars (0-4). The Falcons jumped out to an early 11-6 lead after one quarter.   Midway through the second quarter, Fanshawe's defense was forcing a number of turnovers which led to easy baskets.  The Falcons led 28-17 at the break.  Early in the second half, Fanshawe's Laura Vere and Mikhalia Wright knocked down a pair of three pointers to increase the lead to as many as 20.  Fanshawe led 53-33 heading to the final quarter.  Wright knocked down two more three pointers in the fourth as the Falcons coasted to the 73-52 win. Ali Vlasman led the Falcons in scoring with 20 points on 9 of 14 shooting while Wright finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

 

On Sunday afternoon, the Falcons played their second game of the doubleheader versus the Cougars. The Sault had an early 3-0 lead but the Falcons came right back and tied the game on a three of their own by Wright.  A runner in the lane by Vere gave Fanshawe the lead.  The Cougars kept the game close but Fanshawe led 17-15 after one quarter of play.  The defense picked up in the second quarter for the Falcons.  Four minutes into the quarter and the Falcons had still not allowed the Cougars to score.  Fanshawe would outscore the Sault 11-5 in the quarter and lead 28-20 at the half.  Natalie Warren would lead the Falcons with 8 points.  After the Sault started the third quarter with a three, Fanshawe went on an 8-0 run and the Cougars took a timeout.  Fanshawe led 48-33 heading to the final quarter.  Fanshawe's Wright led the Falcons with 23 points as Fanshawe went on to win the game 72-40. 

 

Fanshawe's next game takes place on the road on Friday, November 11, when they travel to Sarnia, Ontario to take on the Lambton Lions (2-1).
