The defending National Champion Fanshawe Falcons Men's Baseball team went 4-0 this weekend, defeating the Seneca Sting (0-4) by scores of 6-3 and 10-4 and George Brown Huskies (0-4) by scores of 11-1 and 13-9.


In the first game against Seneca, both teams got off to a slow start. In the fourth inning, Fanshawe finally opened the scoring on a Zach Desa (London, ON) RBI, scoring Hayden Regnier (Komoka, ON). The Falcons caught on fire in the sixth inning when with the bases loaded, Tyler Wood (Niagara Falls, ON) hit a triple to score three. Wood then went on to score on a double by Zev Weisdorf (London, ON). Seneca looked to make a comeback in the final inning, however fell short, and the Falcons closed them out to win the game 6-3. Weisdorf had an outstanding game, going 3 for 4, with one RBI and one run. The winning pitcher for Fanshawe was Oakville native, Tyler Rymal (1-0). 


The Falcons started where they left off in game two, scoring five runs in the first inning. Weisdorf led the way for Fanshawe, with 3 hits and scoring two runs. Wood also went 3 for 4 with two runs and left-fielder Desa added two RBIs and one run. The winning pitcher for the Falcons was Markham native, Stephen Barclay (1-0). 


Against George Brown, in the first game of the doubleheader, Faris Adamou (Mississauga, ON) drew a walk with the bases loaded in the second inning to start off the Falcons scoring. Back-to-back 2-run singles by Wood and Weisdorf gave Fanshawe a commanding 5-0 lead. With the Huskies threatening in the third, Falcons catcher Regnier picked off a steal attempt to second to keep the visiting team scoreless. In the fourth inning, Desa hit a double to score two and Travis Helps (Mooretown, ON) added a run for the home team on a wild pitch. George Brown got on the board to make the score 10-1 going into the fifth inning. Fanshawe finished the game on another run off of a wild pitch to make the final score 11-1. In his Fanshawe College debut, London native Kale Bilger (1-0) had seven strikeouts. 


In game two, George Brown started off the scoring with two runs in the first inning. The Falcons responded with outfielder Kevin Bowden (London, ON) hitting a 2-run single to tie the score. The top of the second inning saw the Huskies add three more runs to retake the lead. Fanshawe's Cam Cook (Oakville, ON) started the Falcons off with a walk, followed by a base hit by Reid


Carty (Hamilton, ON). Double steals by Cook and Carty put Fanshawe in scoring position. A single by Adamou and a sacrifice fly by Weisdorf scored Cook and Carty. The Falcons continued to score with RBIs from Carlos Arteaga (London, ON) and Bryan Hames (Waterdown, ON) to put the home team up 8-5 after two innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning Fanshawe added three more runs to extend their lead to 11-6. Fanshawe started off the sixth inning with two walks before Arteaga's hit to score Adamou. Bowden added a 1-run single for the Falcons. George Brown scored three runs in the final inning, making the final score 13-9. The winning pitcher for Fanshawe was Brantford native, James Reibling (1-0). 


Fanshawe will now travel to Durham College (1-1) on Saturday, September 16 for a doubleheader at 1pm and 3:30pm.

The Fanshawe Women's Softball team (0-2) fell to reigning OCAA Champion Durham this past Saturday by scores of 3-2 and 6-4.


In game one, Durham went up 2-0 to start the game. Fanshawe's Samantha Fuller (Ingersoll, ON) would come around to score on an RBI single by Jacey Lochert (Bellwood, ON) in the fifth inning. The Lords added a run in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Fanshawe responded by loading the bases and scoring one on a walk. Unfortunately, the Lords were able to hold the Falcons in the final inning to end the game 3-2.


In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lords came out strong and went up 3-0. Falcon pitcher Andrea Webster (Wilsonville, ON) had a great catch to end the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Ali Bergman (Embro, ON) hit a single to score Emily Davis (London, ON). Durham scored next in the sixth inning to go up 4-1. Fanshawe responded with a Shianne Martin (Wyoming, ON) 2-RBI single, followed by an RBI by Bergman to tie the score at four. Unfortunately, the Lords closed out the final inning with two runs of their own to win the game 6-4.


Fanshawe returns to the diamond on Tuesday, September 12, when they take on the St. Clair Saints (4-0) at 6pm and 8pm at Stronach Park.

The Fanshawe Men's soccer team (1-0-0) started the regular season off with a 1-0 win over the Niagara Knights (0-1-0) last Saturday afternoon.


The Falcons scored early in the match, when Daniel Amaya Romero (London, ON) beat the Knights goalkeeper in the 18th minute. The Falcons also showed their defensive strength in their 1-0 win, only allowing two shots on goal for Niagara. Fanshawe had nine shots on goal and 17 total shots compared to the Knight's six for the game.


Fanshawe will now travel on the road to face the Redeemer Royals (0-1-0) on Wednesday, September 13 at 8pm.  The Royals lost their opening game of the season versus the St. Clair Saints (1-0-0) by a score of 3-0.

The Fanshawe Women's soccer team (1-0-0) won their opening game of the season on the weekend, defeating the Niagara Knights (0-1-0) by a score of 2-1. 


The Falcons squad went up 2-0 in the first half with goals from Katie Rowe (Mount Brydges, ON) in the 38th minute and Alyssa Blair (Belmont, ON) in stoppage time. Niagara scored in the second half to make the score 2-1, however could not complete the comeback. Shots on goal were 9-1 in favour of Fanshawe.


Fanshawe will head to Redeemer College on Wednesday, September 13 to take on the Royals (0-1-0) at 6pm. Redeemer fell to St. Clair (1-0-0) in their opening game by a score of 13-0.

The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will host the Fanshawe College Invitational Tournament this coming Saturday, September 16. The Women's race begins at 11am and the Men will start at 12pm.  The race will take place at the Fanshawe Conservation Area.




The Men's and Women's Golf teams will participate in Fanshawe's Golf Classic on Saturday, September 16.  The tournament begins at 9am and will take place at the Fire Rock Golf Club.
