The #4 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team defeated the #8 ranked Redeemer Royals last Thursday night three sets to none. The Falcons remain undefeated in OCAA play, and lead the West Division with a record of 12-0.

Redeemer started the match strong, opening with a 7-4 lead over the Falcons. Fanshawe would tie the game at 10 on a block from Mike Liscumb (Ilderton, ON). The Falcons got a well-placed tip from setter Sebastian Lethbridge (London, ON) to give them a slim 14-12 advantage. Then, back-to-back kills by Cole Jordan (London, ON) got the home team rolling, extending Fanshawe's lead to 20-16. The Falcons used that momentum and didn't look back, taking the first set 25-18.

The Royals got out to an early lead again in the second set, 6-3. Fanshawe rebounded to tie the game at eight with a killer serve from Zach Albert (Brampton, ON), making his Falcons OCAA debut. As expected, the two teams traded points throughout the set. The Falcons then had massive kills by Albert and Sam Otten (Delaware, ON) to give the home team a 17-15 advantage. Fanshawe's high-powered offense wore down the Royals and the Falcons went on to win the second set 25-19.

Both teams came to play in the third set, with neither team able to take more than a one-point lead for almost half the set. Huge kills by Jordan and Sam Otten got the home crowd on their feet, but the Royals did not let up. Fanshawe continued their strong offense with a back row pipe attack from Albert to finally give the Falcons a two-point advantage, 14-12. Redeemer then came back to tie the set at 16, as it continued to go back and forth between the two teams. Jordan then gave the home team the 21-19 lead with an outstanding right-side kill. Fanshawe completed the three set sweep, winning the final set 25-21. Jordan led the Falcons in the match with 15 kills and 4 aces.

Fanshawe will look to continue their win streak versus the Sheridan Bruins on the road on Wednesday, January 24 at 8pm.

On Thursday evening, the #14 nationally ranked Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team opened 2018 with a 3-0 sweep of the Redeemer Royals, extending their win streak to eight matches.

The Falcons opened the scoring with a left-side hit by London native, Meghan Morelli. The Royals stayed within reach, but a kill by Fanshawe rookie Ainsley Acton (Lucan, ON) gave Fanshawe a 14-12 advantage midway through the first set. Redeemer then went on a run and took the lead 16-15. After a long rally, Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, ON) had a huge block to tie the game at 18. Fanshawe found themselves down 24-23, but focused serving by Meghan Morelli gave the Falcons the next three points and the Falcons would take the first set 26-24.

Fanshawe used their momentum and started the second set with back-to-back points from Shannon Morelli (London, ON). Good defense followed by a service ace from Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) gave the home team a 16-11 lead. A huge kill from Lynda McArdle (London, ON) and a massive block by Kim Hardy (Melbourne, ON) excited the crowd, as the Falcons extended their lead to 22-14. Fanshawe would go on to win the set 25-16.

The Falcons started the final set on a 4-0 run with hits from Acton and Meghan Morelli. Redeemer narrowed the gap with a couple of points of their own, however Fanshawe's attack was too much for the Royals to handle. Another ace from Stewart gave the home team an 18-10 advantage. Despite Redeemer's best efforts, the Falcons took the set 25-21 to win the match 3-0. Meghan Morelli led Fanshawe with 13 points in the match.

Fanshawe's next match will be on Wednesday, January 24 at 6pm, when the Falcons travel to Sheridan to take on the Bruins.
