(London, Ontario) – Mathieu Poulin, Fanshawe's Male Athlete of the Year, is heading to Gatineau, Quebec this weekend, to take part in Volleyball Canada's National "B" Team Selection Camp. The 5 day selection camp takes place at the National Training Centre from May 2-6 and will have some of the best young volleyball players from across the country competing for the chance to represent Canada.
This past season, Poulin played a pivotal role in the success of the Falcons Men's Volleyball program. He led the team in aces, kills, digs and points, propelling the Falcons to an overall season record of 35-8 and an OCAA Bronze medal. The medal was the first OCAA medal for the Fanshawe Men's Volleyball program since 2007, and only the fifth in their history. Poulin was named a Tournament All-Star at both the Fanshawe College and Seneca Sting Tournaments, as well as the Niagara College Tournament MVP. He was the OCAA West Division Scoring Leader with 5.1 points/set as well as both an OCAA West Division First Team All-Star and OCAA Championship Tournament All-Star. He was also only the third Fanshawe Men's Volleyball player to ever be named as a CCAA All-Canadian.
"I couldn't be happier to be given this opportunity," said Poulin, who was very excited about the chance to potentially represent Canada. "It's been a long road here and it's an honour to represent Fanshawe at this event. I've trained extremely hard for this and I'm ready to leave it all on the court."
Fanshawe Falcons Men's Volleyball Head Coach Patrick Johnston spoke highly of Poulin. "I'm so proud of Mathieu's accomplishments this season. He has developed into a complete player that can contribute in all facets of the game. I know he opened some eyes this year and I think he's right in the mix for one of the spots this summer. I'm really happy that he will be in Gatineau representing Fanshawe College and the City of London."
