(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics announced today, the addition of five new assistant coaches to their coaching staff for the 2016-17 season.
Nicole Carriere, Women's Basketball – Carriere is no stranger to the Women's Basketball team, as she has been the associate coach for the past three seasons. While in that role, the Women's Basketball team has compiled an impressive record of 39-15 in league play, and last season, captured the OCAA bronze medal. Carriere had a very successful Fanshawe career of her own as a member of the Women's Basketball and Soccer teams, winning a combined six medals; five OCAA (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze) and one CCAA (1 silver).
John Caulfield, Men's Basketball – Caulfield joins the Falcons after a five year career as a student-athlete in the CCAA. He was a point guard for Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, where the team won their conference championship in all five of his seasons. Caulfield then began his coaching career at the high school level, where he helped his team win a Provincial Championship in just his second season.
Denise Fortin, Women's Soccer – Fortin has an impressive soccer career to say the least. After being captain of Team Ontario for her age division from 1998-2001 and some time at the National Training Program of Ontario, Fortin went to Tusculum College in Tennessee for four years, where she was named the team's captain, the youngest in team history. She was named the team MVP in her junior and senior years, and was a two-time ESPN First Team Academic All-American. Shortly thereafter, Fortin was inducted into the Tusculum College Women's Soccer Hall of Fame. Most recently, she was named the co-captain of the semi-professional FC London team.
Mathieu Poulin, Men's Volleyball – Poulin joins the Falcons coaching staff just three years after being named Fanshawe's Male Athlete of the Year. He was the OCAA West Scoring Champion, an OCAA First Team All-Star and an OCAA Championship All-Star. He helped lead the Falcons to the OCAA Bronze medal, which at the time, was only the third medal in Fanshawe Men's Volleyball history. Poulin came to play for the Falcons after a successful four years at Western University. Last year, the most successful in Fanshawe Men's Volleyball history, the Falcons won the OCAA Provincial Championship and its first ever National medal. The Falcons will host the CCAA National Championship this year at Fanshawe from March 9-11, 2017.
Sean Tilden, Cross Country – Tilden was the associate coach last season for the Falcons, where the men's team won the silver medal at the OCAA Provincial Championship and the bronze medal at the CCAA National Championship. He also ran for Fanshawe back in 2007-08, where his team won the Provincial Championship and brought home bronze at the Nationals. During that time, Tilden was an OCAA All-Academic, CCAA National Scholar and CCAA Academic All-Canadian.
