(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics announced today that Jade Kovacevic (Women's Soccer) has been named Fanshawe's Female Athlete of the Year and that Brandon Mendes (Men's Soccer) has been named Fanshawe's Male Athlete of the Year.  The announcement was made as part of the 49th Annual Fanshawe Athletics Awards Ceremony held in the Oasis Student Centre at Fanshawe College.  The 2015-16 season saw the Falcons bring home a combined 17 OCAA and CCAA Medals, tying the record from 2009-10 for the most Provincial and National medals by Fanshawe in one season.

Female Athlete of the Year:  Jade Kovacevic - Jade was a natural leader on the Women's Soccer team this year and had a huge impact on the program. She was extremely hard-working and raised the intensity of the players around her. She led by example with her play, attitude and her love of the game.  Her individual success on the field was second to none – EVER!  In just five league games, Jade surpassed Fanshawe's single season goal record with 13.  By the end of the regular season, Jade smashed the OCAA single season record with 26 goals and led the CCAA in scoring.  Not only did she break the OCAA record for goals in a season, but she tied the Fanshawe Women's Soccer total career goals in just one season.  For her outstanding achievements, she was named the OCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Year, becoming the first Fanshawe player to ever win this award. Some of her major accomplishments this year included:  OCAA West Division Champion, OCAA League All-Star, OCAA and CCAA League Scoring Champions, OCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Year, and CCAA All-Canadian.

Male Athlete of the Year: Brandon Mendes - Brandon, one of the team Captains of the Men's Soccer team, helped lead the Falcons to a first place finish in the OCAA West Division and a bronze medal at the OCAA Championship.  As the team's defensive specialist, the Falcons gave up the fewest amount of goals in the OCAA regular season and Brandon's play was a big factor in that.  For his outstanding season, Brandon was named the OCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Year, becoming the first Fanshawe player to ever win that award. Some of his major accomplishments this year included:  OCAA West Division Champion, OCAA Bronze Medalist, OCAA League All-Star, OCAA West Division Defensive Player of the Year, OCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian.
