Student, employee and renewable energies program all win prestigious awards.

Fanshawe is proud to announce that student Cheriss Marson, project coordinator Denise Luksys and the College's Renewable Energies Technician (RET) program have been recognized with prestigious awards from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan).

"I want to congratulate Cheriss, Denise and the RET program team for their success at CICan this year," said Peter Devlin, President of Fanshawe College. "At Fanshawe, we aim to unlock potential, and it thrills us to see our students and employees recognized for their achievements."

This is the third consecutive year in which Fanshawe has received three or more CICan honours.

"Once again we were thrilled by the submissions we received for the CICan Awards of Excellence," said CICan President and CEO Denise Amyot. "Canada's colleges and institutes never cease to amaze us with their innovative spirit and creativity and this year's winners definitely embody the best that they have to offer."

Cheriss Marson, a Recreation and Leisure Services graduate and current student in Fanshawe's Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, was recognized with a gold-level designation in CICan's Student Leadership Excellence Award category. Cheriss has made meaningful contributions to the College since 2012, both in athletics and as an elected student leader.

Denise Luksys, a project coordinator with the College's Facilities Management and Community Safety department, received a gold award in Leadership Excellence. Throughout her 14-year career at Fanshawe, Denise has successfully steered numerous projects from development to delivery, including three high-profile, multi-million dollar capital projects.

The Renewable Energies Technician (RET) faculty team won bronze in the Program Excellence category. The RET program was established by Fanshawe's St. Thomas/Elgin Regional Campus in 2012 in direct response to industry demand, and achieved a 100 per cent graduate employment rate over its first two years. The College has officially recognized the renewables sector as one of five areas of focus for future growth.

The awards were presented at the CICan's annual conference in Winnipeg from May 24 to 26.
