(London, Ontario)—Fanshawe's London Campus will be buzzing this weekend as the College welcomes its largest incoming class ever. Almost 9,000 first-year students will arrive for classes that start next week – an increase of 10% over last year.

All media are invited to campus this weekend for photo/video opportunities as families move their children into what is the largest college residence in Ontario, with room for 1,600 students. Both the College and Fanshawe Student Union are planning to roll out the red carpet by hosting many events to welcome students during residence move-in days (see a list of events below).

Overall, Fanshawe is expecting full-time enrolment to grow by almost 7% as compared to 2014/15. International registrations are up more than 40 per cent over last year and first year confirmations have increased by 8 per cent.

Tony Frost, Fanshawe's executive director of Reputation and Brand Management, credits the increase with a growing awareness among students of all ages that college provides the learning, skills and values that are critical to their success in the job market.

“Fanshawe offers students an opportunity to unlock their potential and achieve more on a personal and professional level,” says Frost.

Another part of this year's success is the launch of new programs.

Colleges are known for providing market-relevant programming for students, and with over 200 programs, Fanshawe is a true leader in this area. But this year is a special year with 10 new programs being launched.

“We've been hard at work consulting with industry leaders to identify new programs that address gaps in the workforce, meets the needs of employers and are of an interest to prospective students,” says Frost.

The many exciting events scheduled during orientation are a great way for students to socialize and settle into their new surroundings. Headlining the activities will be country music sensation, Dallas Smith. Smith will perform on Thursday, September 10 in the Glen Johnston Athletic Centre (J Gymnasium) at 9:30 p.m. Dallas has garnered five Canadian Country Music Award nominations and was nominated for Country Album of the Year at the 2013 Juno Awards. He is the first Canadian country artist to have eight singles reach the Top 10 in Canadian radio. The band Petric will open the concert at 8:30 p.m. A complete list of orientation activities is available here.
