On Sunday, April 23, Chef Roland Hofner, along with four students from the School of Tourism and Hospitality, joined a team of volunteer chefs from across the region at the Doubletree by Hilton London to feed 400 guests of the 35th annual “The Meal” fundraising event in support of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Chef Hofner, who has supported the event for several years, says the event was a success for all involved. “The food was fantastic and because they were short on staff our students had a great opportunity to get in on the action. They even helped plating food,” he says. The students were Mawada Assiri, Karla Rodriguez Conde, Sam Mason and Wenhong Wang.

“At the end of the event, all participating chefs were asked to come to the stage. It was wonderful to see that nearly one-third of the cooks involved had Fanshawe's logo on their jackets,” he says.

Fanshawe's influence extended beyond the kitchen. Fanshawe alumni Julie Atchison and Nick Paparella of CTV London emceed the event and Dr. Howard Rundle was among the guests supporting the cause.

Since it began in 1983, “The Meal” has raised more than $1.6 million to support groundbreaking diabetes research.
