(London, Ontario) – Four members of the Fanshawe Falcons Men's Baseball team were honoured tonight for their accomplishments this season as the OCAA handed out their 2016 league awards at the Men's Baseball Championship Banquet in Toronto.
Quinton Twohey – OCAA Men's Baseball Player of the Year and OCAA League All-Star: Fanshawe's Twohey (London, ON) came up with big play after big play this year for the Falcons. If it wasn't a game-winning RBI, it was a game-saving catch. He hit .412 for the season with 21 hits, 19 runs scored and a team-high in RBIs (20) and stolen bases (8). This is the first time that a Fanshawe player has been named the OCAA Men's Baseball Player of the Year.
Robert Doyle – OCAA Men's Baseball Rookie of the Year and OCAA League All-Star: In his first season with Fanshawe, Doyle (London, ON) was among Fanshawe's team leaders with 19 hits, 8 runs and 8 RBIs. Not only was he a threat with the bat and a defensive specialist in the outfield, but he also pitched in three games for the Falcons, posting an impressive 0.42 ERA. On October 16 versus George Brown, he had a Fanshawe record nine strikeouts in a game in just four innings pitched.
Carlos Arteaja – OCAA League All-Star: In his third season with Fanshawe, Arteaja (London, ON) had another impressive season at shortstop for the Falcons. With a team high 61 at bats, Arteaja hit .377 with 23 hits, 25 runs and 14 RBIs. He also drew a team-high 14 walks on the season. He is the Fanshawe record holder for career runs (60) and stolen bases (25).
Travis Helps – OCAA League All-Star: Helps (Mooretown, ON) hit cleanup for the Falcons most of the season and finished with 22 hits, 15 RBIs and 12 runs scored. With a .407 average, he was always a threat at the plate. Helps had a team high .593 slugging percentage and had one homerun on the season. He is the first Falcon to have two homeruns in his Fanshawe career.
