Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus invites Norfolk County educators to explore new methods.
The Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus at Fanshawe College has partnered with local school boards to launch an innovative educational workshop, inviting educators across Norfolk County to come together for a half-day of networking and learning.
'Provocations, Loose Parts and Documentation, Oh My!' is offered in collaboration with the Grand Erie School Board and Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board.
"Fanshawe faculty have developed this event in conjunction with the local school boards," says professor Marie Poss, one of the workshop facilitators. "It is a high interest professional development opportunity, and I think a great demonstration of educational collaboration. We have community employers, child care providers, early child educators and kindergarten teachers all gathering together like this for the first time."
Exercises will focus on strategies to encourage and document natural or child-led learning, with participants starting their day by engaging in 'play' with best practice provocations. Part of an educational method designed to stimulate ideas, initiative and imagination, provocations provide hands-on opportunities to explore, practice, test, construct and deconstruct ideas.
"The local educational community will have an opportunity to come together at this workshop to learn, discuss, and work towards creating an ideal learning environment for all of our children," Poss explains.
Already sold out, 'Provocations, Loose Parts and Documentation, Oh My!' will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus, 634 Ireland Road, Simcoe. Fanshawe plans to offer additional professional development workshops in the region in the future.
