Men's Volleyball
February 20, 2014

(Barrie, Ontario) – Before the competition begins at the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championships on February 20th, several members of the Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team were honoured as the league handed out the 2014 awards.

In his first season, Fanshawe Head Coach Patrick Johnston was named the OCAA Coach of the Year. Johnston coached the Falcons to a 14-4 league record, good for second place in the OCAA West Division. The Falcons finished the regular season ranked seventh in all of Canada. He will now represent the OCAA at the CCAA National Championships next month in Moose Jaw, SK as their nominee for the CCAA Coach of the Year.

Fifth-year veteran Mathieu Poulin was named a prestigious CCAA All-Canadian. Poulin is only the third Fanshawe Men's Volleyball player to be honoured with this award. He was also named an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star. Poulin also took home the title of OCAA West Division scoring champion, averaging 5.1 points per set. Poulin led the Falcons to a second place finish in the regular season West Division standings.

Falcons first-year right side Nate Van Camp was named to the OCAA West All-Rookie Team. Van Camp certainly didn't look like a first year player on the court, averaging 2.0 points per set on the season, including 78 kills, third most on the Falcons team.

The Fanshawe men's quarter-final game takes place on Thursday, February 20

th @ 1:00pm versus the George Brown Huskies at Georgian College in Barrie, ON.
