Fanshawe offering tuition-free accelerated Personal Support Worker program

Fanshawe is now offering an accelerated Personal Support Worker (PSW) program to help meet the growing demand for PSWs in our region.

The accelerated program is available for domestic students and features a condensed schedule that will allow students to graduate with an Ontario College Certificate in only six months. Students will study in a blended delivery including online courses and in-person practical experience. Students may volunteer at long-term care homes and other settings early in the program and will also take part in a paid work placement in the final three months of the program.

“Personal support workers are essential members of health care teams for thousands of Ontarians,” says Susan Cluett, acting dean of the Faculty of Health, Community Studies and Public Safety at Fanshawe. “The demand continues to grow, and our graduates will be prepared to provide high-quality, compassionate care in the health care and long-term care sectors.”

The accelerated PSW program will cover students’ tuition and expenses such as textbooks and other supplies.

Applications are now being accepted at and classes begin June 6. The program will be offered at Fanshawe’s London, Simcoe/Norfolk, St. Thomas/Elgin and Woodstock/Oxford campuses and the Huron/Bruce Regional Site in Clinton. Further information is available at

May 19 is Personal Support Worker Day—a day to acknowledge and celebrate the essential role of PSWs in our health care system.
