50th anniversary Fanshawe
September 8, 2017

Hedley and Barenaked Ladies headline College's exclusive 50th event.

More than 6,600 Fanshawe College students, staff, alumni and retirees will gather at Budweiser Gardens on September 9 to celebrate the College's 50th anniversary with an exclusive concert featuring Hedley, Barenaked Ladies and Brave Shores.

The concert, “Fanshawe: Live in Concert”, is the marquee celebration of the College's first 50 years. In the crowd will be many incoming students from Fanshawe's largest-ever first-year class.

“This concert represents more than just the biggest event in College history,” says Fanshawe President, Peter Devlin. “It's an exciting celebration of how far we've come over our first 50 years and the bright future ahead of us.”

The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a festival in Jubilee Court (Gate 1, opposite Covent Garden Market), where six bands representing Fanshawe's Music Industry Arts program will perform prior to the concert. A 1967 Ford Falcon, restored by students and faculty from the School of Transportation Technology over the past year, will also be on display.

Earlier this week, the City of London announced Fanshawe as the featured community organization and a proclamation was made by Woodstock's city council. Similar proclamations will be made this month throughout the region. In London, the Fanshawe flag has been raised at City Hall and civic buildings are lit up in red leading up to Saturday's concert. Fanshawe banners have also been erected throughout the downtown core as well as in Simcoe, Woodstock, St. Thomas and Aylmer.

Hedley, a pop-rock group from British Columbia, has won multiple MMVA and JUNO awards, including the 2012 Pop Album of the Year. Barenaked Ladies, an iconic Canadian group that traces its roots to Scarborough, Ontario, burst onto the scene with their 1992 album, Gordon. They have released a total of 11 studio albums, won eight JUNO Awards and been nominated for multiple Grammy awards. Brave Shores, a Toronto-based electro pop band that formed in 2013, enjoyed early success with their hit song, Never Come Down.
