(London, ON) – The Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) is gearing up to make the kick-off to the 2015/16 school year even more exciting and memorable by giving away a car to one lucky student.

The “Cruze into College” giveaway, a unique partnership between the FSU and Fanshawe's School of Transportation Technology, features a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze which was fully restored by students as part of their Automotive Service Technician and Auto Body Repairer Apprentice programs.

“We were excited to put this project in motion because we knew it would be a great opportunity to showcase the skills of Fanshawe students,” said FSU President Alan Bushell. “Of course, giving away a car is also a great way to promote the events we have planned and get new students thinking about the FSU.”

The students restored the car's body and mechanical systems with new materials, financed by the FSU, and components donated from industry partners.

“I give the FSU full credit for driving this project and presenting students with a great opportunity to restore this vehicle back to its original condition,” said Blaine Young, coordinator in the School of Transportation Technology. “Everyone involved is really excited to see the look on the winner's face!”

The giveaway will be made at the Centre for Applied Transportation Technologies (Z Building) on Wednesday, October 21, 2015.

There is no purchase necessary to earn a ballot into the draw. The FSU will be handing out ballots via unique online codes to students attending the many FSU events scheduled throughout the month of September and early October. The more events a student attends, the more ballots they earn, increasing their odds of winning. Students can also earn ballots by engaging the FSU on social media platforms.

Throughout September and early October, the FSU will announce the names of the 15 randomly-selected contestants at events leading up to the final giveaway. At the giveaway, those contestants will each select one of 15 keys they hope will unlock a box that holds the keys to the car. Whoever unlocks the correct box wins the car.

The contest is open to all full-time students at the time of the draw at Fanshawe's London, St. Thomas, Woodstock and Simcoe campuses.
