Fanshawe College is bringing home gold and silver medals from the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), held June 5 to 8 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Ryan Zantinge won gold in the Architectural Technology category and Brodie Gibson won silver in the auto painting competition.
The SCNC is the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in the country. Every year, more than 500 young people from all regions of Canada come to SCNC to participate in over 40 skilled trade and technology competitions. Students must compete at local, regional and provincial/territorial events to gain their place to represent their province/territory at SCNC.
This year's win brings Fanshawe's cumulative total to seven national medals—three gold, three silver and one bronze—in each of the five years the College has attended. Fanshawe's Architectural Technology program also boasts five gold and three silver medals at the provincial level, including a gold in this year's Ontario Trades Skills Competition, taking the program's total to eight medals in the past six years.
