Professionals name College top music school in the country for third consecutive year
For the third year in a row, industry professionals have named Fanshawe College the nation's top Music School in the 2019 Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards (CMBIA), this year tying with Metalworks Institute in Mississauga. The announcement was made Thursday, May 9 during an annual celebration at the Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto.
Paying tribute to the industry's pioneers and builders, the awards ceremony and gala wrapped up Canadian Music Week with a celebration of all facets of the art and science behind music and broadcasting in Canada, including publishing, facilities, management and performance. The awards were presented to honour individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to the Canadian music industry in the past year. Rather than being selected by fans or judges, winners were chosen by the combined votes of registered Canadian music professionals from the retail, recording and live sectors.
"Winning this award three years in a row is a great honor, and caps an incredible year for the Music Industry Arts Program and the City of London, with the Junos having taken place here March 17. All credit goes the to the talented faculty, staff and students who continue to put Fanshawe and London on the map as the place to learn, live and have a great career in music and other creative industries," says Rob Carver, associate dean of the School of Media at Fanshawe. "We are proud to receive this alongside our co-winners Metalworks and extend our congratulations for their second time winning this honour. Congrats also to Michael McCarthy, Fanshawe grad and Chief Membership & Business Development Officer for SOCAN, on his induction into the Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame, and to all CMBIA nominees and winners past and present for their achievements and contributions to Canadian music."
This is the fourth year that CMBIA has awarded a winner in the 'Music School' category, and the third year that Fanshawe College was nominated. Metalworks Institute won in 2016. Fanshawe received the award in 2017 and 2018.
