(London, Ontario) – On Friday evening in Etobicoke, the #11 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Basketball squad (19-3, 2nd in West) defeated the Durham Lords (10-9, 3rd in East) 93-62 in their quarterfinal game at the OCAA Provincial Championship hosted by Humber College.

 

The Falcons came out flying in the first quarter, as they opened with a 20-point run before the Lords were able to get themselves on the scoreboard. Claire Dechet (Sarnia, ON) made a pair of mid-range jumpers to spark Fanshawe's offense. Defensively, the Falcons stifled the Lords with their pressure. After the first frame, Fanshawe was up 31-5. The Falcons continued their strong showing and at the half had a commanding 51-20 lead. The red and white used fast break points to hold their lead in the third quarter, as Mikhaila Wright (London, ON) found Chuot Angou (London, ON) streaking down the floor. The Lords would outscore the Falcons in the fourth, 23-17, however the Falcons would win the game 93-62.

 

The Falcons finished shooting 47.3% from the field, 73.1% from the charity stripe and converted 30.8% of their three-point attempts. Thirteen different players on Fanshawe's roster scored at least two points. Wright, who was named Fanshawe's player of the game, led the squad with 19 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocks. Dechet and Angou added 14 and 12 points respectively for the Falcons. With the win, the Falcons advance to a semi-final matchup versus the Niagara Knights (16-6, 4th in West) at 8pm on Saturday.

 

The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team dropped two straight games at their Provincial Championship in Welland. The Falcons (12-11, 6th in West) fell in a tight quarterfinal matchup on Thursday to the #14 ranked Sheridan Bruins (18-5, 2nd in West) by a score of 67-61. The player of the game was Filip Pejic (Hamilton, ON). They then dropped their consolation semi-final game on Friday to host Niagara (15-8, 4th in West) 85-78 to conclude their season. The player of the game was Sean Clendinning (Orillia, ON).
