(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Curling team was crowned 2014 OCAA Provincial Champions last Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The Women defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers in the Gold Medal final 7-4. The Women are the two-time defending CCAA National Champions, but this is their first OCAA Provincial Championship since 1988, and only the third in Fanshawe's history.
The Falcons Women's Curling team had an outstanding tournament, finishing in first place in the round robin with a record of 6-1. This gave the Women a bye to the Gold Medal final. In the final, Fanshawe took an early 3-0 lead after taking 3 points in the second end. The Falcons stole another in the third end and never looked back, winning by a final score of 7-4. The Women's team was made up of skip Shannon Kee, vice Christina Borgs, second Kaitlyn Knipe and lead Meghan White.
The Falcons Men's team also represented Fanshawe well at the OCAA Provincial Championships. The Men finished the round robin with a record of 5-2, earning them a spot in the semi-finals. The Falcons scored first but the Men couldn't hold on and lost to the Humber Hawks 7-4. Fanshawe would settle for the bronze medal.
Both teams will return to Sault Ste. Marie for the 2014 CCAA National Championships from March 19
th-22nd. The Women's team are two-time defending National Champions while the Men captured the bronze last season and won the title in 2012.
