(Oshawa, Ontario) – Before the competition begins at the OCAA Women's Volleyball Championships on February 20th, several members of the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team were honoured as the league handed out their 2014 All-Star awards.
Third-year left side Kaitlyn Kelly was named an OCAA First-Team All-Star. She led the team with 4.6 points per game and had 222 total kills on the season, the most of anyone in the OCAA.
Third-year middle blocker Shelby Charlton was also named an OCAA First-Team All Star. Charlton did it all this year for the Falcons, filling in as an outside hitter and even as a setter for a number of games. She still managed to average 2.9 points per set, the second most on the Falcons.
Melanie Griese, the Falcons Libero, was named an OCAA Second-Team All Star. Now in her second year, she has accumulated an impressive 337 total digs.
First-year setter Darion Gropp was named a member of the OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team. Gropp led a fantastic offense for the Falcons, who were second in the OCAA in kills per set.
The Fanshawe women's quarter-final game takes place on Thursday, February 20
th @ 1:00pm versus the Georgian Grizzlies at Durham College in Oshawa, ON.
