(London, Ontario) – The Falcons Women's Basketball team (3-1) defeated the Sault Cougars (0-4) in both games of their doubleheader this past weekend by scores of 73-52 and 72-40.  The CCAA #13 ranked Falcons are now in third place in the OCAA West Division.

On Saturday, the Falcons jumped out to an early 11-6 lead after one quarter.   Midway through the second quarter, Fanshawe's defense was forcing a number of turnovers which led to easy baskets.  The Falcons led 28-17 at the break.  Early in the second half, Fanshawe's Laura Vere and Mikhalia Wright knocked down a pair of three pointers to increase the lead to as many as 20.  Fanshawe led 53-33 heading to the final quarter.  Wright knocked down two more three pointers in the fourth as the Falcons coasted to the 73-52 win. Ali Vlasman led the Falcons in scoring with 20 points on 9 of 14 shooting while Wright finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

On Sunday afternoon, a three pointer by Brianna Arichara gave the Sault an early 3-0 lead but the Falcons came right back and tied the game on a three of their own by Wright.  A runner in the lane by Vere gave Fanshawe the lead.  The Cougars kept the game close but Fanshawe led 17-15 after one quarter of play.  Defense picked up in the second quarter for the Falcons.  Four minutes into the quarter and the Falcons had still not allowed the Cougars to score.  Fanshawe would outscore the Sault 11-5 in the quarter and lead 28-20 at the half.  Natalie Warren would lead the Falcons with 8 points.  After the Sault started the third quarter with a three, Fanshawe went on an 8-0 run and the Cougars took a timeout.  Fanshawe led 48-33 heading to the final quarter.  Fanshawe's Wright led the Falcons with 23 points as Fanshawe went on to win the game 72-40.

Fanshawe's next game takes place on the road on Friday, November 11, when they travel to Sarnia, Ontario to take on the Lambton Lions (2-1).
